Well, beatport will be changing their interface in january and thayve already presented two new features:

- Playlist, which was one of the more demmanded features from users

- Easier navigation with filters.

I think beatport has become the leader in EDM digital sales beacuse of its interface. Its a pain in the ass to shop anywhere else, surfing to endless html pages. Also digging in beatport by artists, labels , users also bought is very nice way to discover new stuff all the time.

So why other sites have been so lazy in catch something as easy to use as beatport?

Why artist in psy scene are not adopting it? (very few have their photopage)

Why there are so few charts for psytrance??

Do you think beatport should split progressive trance and psy trance?           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

The psy-trance section on Beatport is still very small compared to most other sections, so I don't think it would make much sense to split up the section.           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

the new beatport needs a wider selection of psytrance.

The selection is very small compared to other digital download shops as well...

I can't find more than a few albums i enjoy on beatport which is why I ususally don't check it very often..

good day!

flash interface?
there's a reason ebay, amazon etc don't use flash interfaces...this is not the place to explain about internet advertising and ecommerce....

I had the same opinion as you earlier, but after using Beatport.com for a few years, I must say that it is a very nice site and surely better than most alternatives. Yes, there are problems with the website, but after watching some of the preview-stuff about the new website, it seems like most of it has been addressed on the new version.

It's quite simple actually: if people have a big hassle with using a website, they won't use it: and since Beatport.com has developed into the market-leader for electronic music, they must be doing something right.

My biggest concern until recently was the high prices, but just recently they also lowered their prices           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

eBay does have a flash interface (eBay desktop) which I do prefer to their regular version.
And there is one big difference between Beatport and Amazon...HTML can present images just fine so flash is not needed to present books or other goods.
Flash is superior when it comes to playing back sound though, and when the focus is presenting sound rather than images and information Flash can be a very good choice if implemented correctly...and in Beatports case it does seem to work considering their market position.
In the end, most users couldn't care less what technology is used and it's only the end result that matters, and Beatport is good looking and easy to use.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

im really interested in knowing how this site works, in the sense - i see 2 of my old trax there. Specifically the release on Kagdila records, which is very old, I dont understand , where the proceedings of the purchase of this digital download is going? is it supposed to go to the artist? partially?fully?

i really need this info ..           ------------------------------

after using it a half year in a very intensive way for our dj team. i am realy pissed about beatport, because of the horrible and missleading track-samples for prelistening.
i dont know what they are doing with the mp3 but it seems like they are boosting the bassline extra and compress only mid and highs, then its compressed again to clipping zone around 0 db (my soundcard shows clipping on every beatport sample).

the result is that every track sounds hard hitting and killer but has often nothing to do with the real track behind. now add the fact that you only can preview a few minutes of the tune and this leads me to 10-25% mis-buys of tracks that i dont like when i hear them within the real format they come.

there are allready some real good alternatives, sadly they dont have the wide selection like beatport: check out this site for example, it is realy realy good for prelistening (nearly full track lenght) and usability + community features:
http://www.whatpeopleplay.com/
2009 will be the year where i am using shops besides of beatport as much as i can for sure.

about psytrance:
i dont know whats going on there but the whole-psytrance genre within beatport looks not very frequented. sometimes it looks like only 10 people need to download a track to make it going into the top100 which is even not thinkable in other genres (housegenres for example).

Psy Trance genre in Beatport is very small in comparison to the big seller genres such as Techno, Electro House, Progressive House, Tech House etc..

This is why Psy artists are not featured with full photo and top 10 selling tracks, since Beatport makes special pages for artist on basis of sales.

1st place on Psytrance chart would place the same track around 70 - 80 on Progressive House chart, and it might not enter at all into top 100 of Techno or Electro House.           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman
