Artist Bios
The Detroit Escalator Co.
Neil Ollivierra is a Detroit-born multi-disciplinary artist who composes electronic music as The Detroit Escalator Co. He first appeared in the early Detroit techno scene as the promoter of The Music Institute (1988-89); the legendary underground after-hours club that served as the pre-release audio testing grounds for the Transmat, KMS and Metroplex record labels. A growing acquaintance with resident DJ Derrick May led to his employment as the Transmat label manager during the labels' most prolific years (1988-1992), wherein legendary artists such as Carl Craig, James Pennington, and Stacey Pullen first exploded onto the global scene.

The first album by The Detroit Escalator Co., entitled 'soundtrack (313),' was released in 1996 on London-based Ferox records. The album, now out of print and rare, is considered a cult-classic. The 2nd album by The Detroit Escalator Co., entitled 'Black Buildings,' was Neils' first recording for Peacefrog. Concurrent with the album production, he completed a long-planned series of acrylic oil paintings as part and parcel of the Black Buildings album project. The paintings abstract, monochromatic geometric landscapes were the subject of a solo exhibition at Detroit's Cpop Gallery. Today these paintings hang in homes and corporate environments in Detroit, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Paris and London. In 2000, Peacefrog released a collection of early-era recordings and previously unreleased tracks by The Detroit Escalator Co., entitled "Excerpts."

AGK
Formed in 2002 when Paul Gathercole , Kevin Paul and Ben Ackland joined forces ,AGK Could only have come into being in the UK. They are the archetypal odd couple (except That they are a trio) and their music takes you on an introspective trip through loss into Euphoria. A British group in the noble tradition of groups like Japan, The Associates and The Divine Comedy.

Namig their project after their initials (Ackland, Gathercole and er, Kevin), the boys made a splash with their track "Pling", swiftly followed by 'The Shortest Romance EP' which had them tipping their hats at their 80's influences with an eerie cover of Duran Duran's 'Planet Earth'. Plaudits and support came from Pete Lawrence, Mixmaster Morris, Chris Coco and Mark Moore amongst others. Their mission statement(s) show them to "want people to make meaningful long-term relationships with our songs", 'do more of what we already do but better" and "to win our own race". Worthy aims, and they took one step closer to achieving them with their 2005 album "The Liking of Things".

AGK's influences range from Kraftwerk and The Orb through to Nick Drake, David Sylvian, Vivaldi and Adam & The Ants , while DJ Magazine described them as 'shimmering in the spirit of Depeche Mode and their ilk. Moving mood music for the melancholic.'

Submodern
Submodern create electronic space pop filled with synthetic bloops, bleeps and beats. We just finished up our new album Slowburn, a sixty minute continuous mix of psychedelic ambient groove.

Daddio
"Daddio" was born from the inspirations of long time musician Kyle Mueller. Kyle grew up in Eugene Oregon where he played drums and bass in various bands spanning multiple genres from jazz, metal, rock, blues, and reggae. After graduation from the University or Oregon, Mueller explored the burgeoning music scene in Seattle, playing with a folk rock band and a funk project. Once settled in the San Francisco Bay Area, he spent 5 years playing with electro-jazz project "jump/cut". They released "the Alias Men" in 2004 and gigged around the SF Bay Area at lounges and festivals.

"My first love in music is rhythm. The level of communication that occurs between the drums and bass, and how that influences and supports the rest of the band has always inspired me."

The Sound Capsule
The Sound Capsule is a collaboration between DF Tram & DJ Xan-X, their music is a blend of ambient sounds, smooth melodies, titillating hooks and soft beats. Its composition is a combination of synthesizer music blended with sound snippets and loops introduced by contemporary dj mixing and sampling techniques. Collaborating for over 5 years, The Sound Capsule has been creating a deep chill sound that harks back to a time of ambience forgotten. Their debut album "Enter The Sound Capsule" found its way into the record boxes and cd wallets of many chillout connoisseurs. Look out for the new Bruce Haack project in 2010.

Telefuzz
Telefuzz has been busy over the past few years, finishing the album 'The Financiers of Samsarsa', and now hard at work on the material for a new release, 'The Ovaltine Prophecies'. Telefuzz Live made its successful debut as a 3 piece band at The Big Chill 2006, and has subsequently played in Vancouver and over the Canadian airwaves with a CBC Radio 3 session recording. Over a year in the making, the live project is the first with a full band for Upstairs Recordings. Drummer Paul Milelli, and bassist Paul McNeil - Verbrilli's long-time friend and collaborator - provide a warm rhythmic undercurrent for the Don's electronics and guitars to float upon. Fans of the Upstairs sound can expect the deep psychedelic dubbyness that Verbrilli is known for, but should be prepared to be taken in a variety of new sonic directions.

Fuzzpod
Electronic artists Fuzzpod are a musical trio from San Francisco consisting of Maki, Momo and Captain Electrik.

Fuzzpod began with Bob Bertucci, aka Captain Electrik, a solo artist making techno and downtempo music inspired by the likes of Shpongle, Laurie Anderson & The Orb. He released the first Fuzzpod album, an instrumental effort titled "Fuzzy" in 2004. While the first Fuzzpod album was instrumental, Bertucci found himself seeking a collaboration with vocalists Momo and Maki for the next album.

The Garden of Fuzzy Delights is a hybrid of the playfulness of Deee-Lite, the lyrical insight and pop elements of Pet Shop Boys, but with a soulful twist akin to that of The Supreme Beings of Leisure. They've been compared to Morcheeba, Autechre, Tricky, and Depeche Mode.

Jump Cut
jump/cut covers a lot of sonic territory built on the electronica aesthetic while moving their vibe towards organic sound creation with vibrant effects and eclectic samples. their "organic electronica" melds a continuum spanning styles from drum n' bass, downtempo, breakbeat, ambient, dub, trip-hop and even modern jazz compositional ideas. the goal is to ignite live elements of electronica music that are usually lost in a robotic technical execution by creating interactive melodic atmospheres, deep oscillating bass lines and pulsating backbeat drums. jump/cut synthesizes a bent sonic mayhem from the rapid-fire polyrhythms of drum n' bass, shapeshifting textures of ambient soundscapes, and hypnotic trip-hop groove impulses. using "live" drums, bass, guitar synth, vibraphone & dj they create a neo-electronica full sensory alternative for dance floor victims that flows naturally and unobtrusively into all corners of the room.
