i've decided i make neurotranz... or at least the latest tracks or the stuff in my head that didnt come yet because im still waiting for my f$^%&*ing replacement cubase dongle. and the upgrade... since a month. grr.
anyway- neurotrance is like:
baslines from hard psy or techno- pumpng and not usually wiggly but if the wiggle has some power and upward propulsion then its ok sometimes...
atmospheres-= harmonic rich and usually with jazzy or fresh new skoolish overtones.
this is where a lot of the melodic stuff happens- in the clouds...
no single note pads- usually thick...
cleaned up and tight phat leads - hard like psy or dark but not so noisy or cluttered. not every sixteenth note... only some funky riffage... this part is not typically melodic in the usual sense but may have some interesting melodic tonalities...
tite banging drum section- tite yet substantial... loads of tight integration and highly technical groove...
....
anyway- i could describe some penta, para halu, kdd, atriohm, (what stuff am i forgettting?) as this... not full on, not particularly dark or harsh, more just energy trance with development that might satisfy people until their middle 30's perhaps...
im not sure what 40 will bring...
some other people were asking me about this neurotranz thing and i think there is something solidifying around two words
sophisticated
power
ok, as an admitted wanker on this forum (among others) i don't expect any decent behaviour from the lot of you- and i await the lashes defiantly like a true motherfucker.
neuro or fluffed up dark?
who wants to join this bandwagon or already has and i just didnt realize it? (because im a self-preoccupied wanker as i said already...) |

hi Ocelot, I admire your work.
And I am curious about this neurotranz branch.
So, I have some questions:
1)bpm?
2)what do you mean by ¨fresh new skoolish overtones¨?
3)is it some sort of dark with atmospheric/space fx?

These are the real dark psytrance deal. Everything else is fluffed up dark anyways. |

I'm up for any new name that will differentiate between the "gerbils in a microwave" 180BPM psy from the "cats in the blender" 180 BPM psy

Ok Ocelot, this track sounds good. Not so dark, you don´t have to have a convulsion fit to dance to it, as most dark tracks requires.
But, this new name won´t work for good. Soon people will be calling it ¨neurotic¨, and there it goes down the drain your good intentions: Music for neurotic people. ¨Ocelot is doing neurotic music¨ won´t be a nice comment, for sure.
What about if we come with another name? I suggest ¨SPACE¨, short for ¨dark space trance¨, which is something that describes well what you and Kraft (Insomnia Recs.), for instance, are doing.

Kraft is indeed neurotranz/neurotrance per my taste.. most peeps that I have spoken with who feel you need to be in a convulsion fit in order to dance to it, just don't like it, don't listen to it and even think its restricted just to fast bpm's.. This is only part of the observation..
"QuantumTrance" could be the space name your looking for and it also fits the dream like state that Goa gives, it's already in circulation by a few hillbillies. The quest for the universal sound is so sweeeet.."MesolimbicTrance" as a generic name...

Hellooo? Suomi with hard basslines and high bpm is called ultra-neurotic trance. This new thing is only neurotic, ok? |

ummm no i would characterize neuro as "normal psy bpms" although its not always true... but the feel is not fast per se...
144-148... |

well the track listed is not my example of neuro... (it is a track of mine)
generally it doesnt have the constant clutter of classic suomi and not this 16th note riff thing, and not melodic on the leads so much as on the atmosphere...
and the name neuro is already given by some people... im just responding to it...
so the name stays... too late.
its less about me and my styles (various) and more about the concept i see-
this kind of
"edgy tight structure with beautiful whipped cream filling" |
