I just purchased a netbook computer (extremely tiny, very underpowered machine for emails, office work, not good for much)
I'm looking for some very light software that I can use to compose with on the move.
Obviously the machine is never going to run a full sequencer, but is there anything out there that will allow me to write notes on a score, perhaps with the ability to play a single VST? Is there some sort of ultra compact sampler?
I use a program called Jalmus to increase my piano sight reading skills, which works perfectly, so I can recommend that.
Are there any small audio apps that you use that might be useful if portable? |

The stats are decidedly pathetic.
Intel Atom processor. 8GB SSD. 512MB RAM.
I've shoehorned an nlite XP on there and it runs okay.
So not much chance of any big apps, but something to mess about with on my headphones would be great. Get some work done while I'm on the train etc.
Great ideas so far. I will try reaper and see how it runs. Asio4all was the first thing I put on and works well. I've never tried minihost but I will give it a go this evening and report back
Thanks guys, some things to be getting on with |

If you are going to install reaper and you want to avoid the use of external drums vstis like battery remember to look for ReaDrum (a track template that use reaper's internal sampler).

I'd install buzz with a vst loader. ideal with keyboard/mouse combo. Renoise/Psycle or something like that could do the trick too.
as a sequenzer energy xt comes to mind. lightweight and powerful.
dunno if ableton live runs on those specs. for me the ideal sequenzer on the road. thinking about taking my nocturn on train rides sometimes
