As an American living overseas and having spent a few years of my life living overseas, I can attest that I've never personally experienced any form of aggression towards me on the basis of my nationality. On the contrary, many people seem friendlier to me than I normally otherwise would seem to be, and I've been helped out by a lot of strangers. Normally people in social circles don't "make a big deal" about me being an Ami either positive or negative, unless they're interested in subjects specifically relating to America they want to ask me about.
On that note, it's also true that I've been asked a lot of critical, difficult questions regarding my country's actions... It's reasonable to expect anyone to be able to answer intelligent questions regarding the actions of one's country... I'm not surprised. International attitude HAS changed a lot about America in the last ten years... but I still haven't had to deal with any negativity towards me as an individual because of it.
What's really interesting to me is that when I've left overseas, I see a lot of expression from Amis in my environment who are afraid the world is a more dangerous place for us, that there is a lot of hostility awaiting us, and that we should be careful about "not looking American" (say by stitching Canadian flags into out backpacks... actually, disguising oneself as Irish seems to be the new trend for backpackers...) but those sorts of assumptions are purely unfounded in my own personal experience.
One time (perhaps the only thing in my post relating to this topic) I was visiting a small circus camped near a youth hostel in the city I'm living in in Germany. I was in the hostel buying a few beers, and I saw some Ami backpackers (looking fresh off the plane) greeting everyone with the "Sieg Heil" arm in the air. People seemed obviously uncomfortable. So I went to them talked to them for a bit, told them, "Hey, you can't be doing that here... you can get arrested and fined by the cops or the crap kicked out of you real fast." After spending a few minutes with them, it became apparent their behavior didn't come from any sort of racist thoughts or attempt to be funny... it came from a serious attempt at politeness by some ignorant Americans who obviously didn't pay ANY attention in school. They SERIOUSLY thought there was still a national socialist type of government and Hitler was some sort of hero to the Germans. The issue was, they seemed with good intentions, yet WOEFULLY pointed in the wrong direction.
Another thing that makes me really sad is that almost all of the neo-nazi propaganda in Germany and elsewhere in Europe is printed and made legally in America and smuggled into those countries where it's illegal.

whats going on?
the racists are everywhere btw. sometimes they are cultural racists, sometimes nazis. the most common thing among them is that they have an ill self consciousness and lots of minority complex.
it is full of them. i always thought that the trance scene is free of such things. we are citizens of the earth.
but it is not the case. some trancers seem to be bigger nazis than even the real nazis. "dont taint my culture , it is MINE". is there a nother forum where this topic has been quoted and discussed in russian?

The people who are making our advertisements and dropping bombs from airplanes are not the same people you see with over sized backpacks in the train station in whatever country you happen to be in.
