Well, as this thread seems not to be only about neo-psy-rock but psyrock in general, i think Iron Butterfly must be mentioned here as well.

I really don't like them..but yes The Flaming Lips..considered among the same type of genre, are a lot more psychedelic imo..so I'd check them out..

There's a lot of indie psychedelic rock coming from the US, but most of it is an excuse to make terrible music and call it "psy"

How about Mogwai....

Porcupine Tree is my favourite band
I see where your nickname 'Darkmatter' comes from, now

Pretty good to know that a few people also listen to similar stuff.

And I think Sigur-Ros OWNS!           There is no dark side of the moon really... as a matter of fact , its all dark!

Sigor Ros are the most beautiful sound ever made by man. I also quite like Mum, Tortoise and Mogwai for that kind of sound.

As for Porcupine tree are a great example of a band that actually evolves. Who could believe that Linton Samuel Dawson and Arriving somewhere not here was composed by the same songwriter. But of course Steven Wilson is a genius. I do like the newer stuff but I'm definately more into the trancey psychadelic sound on tracks like waiting, sky moves sideways and voyage 34. Pure amaze. Wish they had of explored that era a little deeper. But then there's always Metanoia.

Yes, I like it when a band evolves and doesnt do the same stuff for twenty years. Now I also prefere the same tracks as you !! I still hope Steven will go on exploring these territories again in the future, once he's tired of the Opeth and black metal influences

By the way I saw them live two months ago, and the first hour was entirely new material from future album, I must say it was quite impressive. Filzbiber, next time they play Switzerland, you have to check them out!!

Steven's parallel project with israeli superstar Aviv Geffen is called Blackfield and they will release second album soon, followed by world tour. Not to be missed!!!!!!

then you might also like Mono and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, the first one being extremely like apocalyptic and hypnotic in atmosphere, sometimes really rough and heavy too. Isis is fine too...
