I have tried that a couple of times but still come up with that cluttered feeling. Perhaps I'm missing something.

i dont think having such templates of highpassing is a good idea. sure that works and the whole idea is correct, and you save your time, but i think you can get better results if you work on each sound individually, putting special eq and compressor on each lead (i should add 'when needed' but i put compressor and eq on every audiotrack and every vst synth) with a preset done for this and only sound.
