Need some help with XP installation for Audio

hey 
i want to format my HD and ihave few questions about installing XP For Audio :
i have been using 2 operation systems both XP ,one for audio and other for the rest i wanted to know if its realy necessary to install an entire OS for audio only,is it realy helping the perfomance of music softwares?
and how should i install and tweak the XP to make it work at its best in Audio?

no, isn t necessary anymore ( >7200rpm hd, xp/p4, ddrram ). though i don t speak of own experiences ( mags n ppl ).
