I got the impression that this referred to different hat samples.
I also got the impression that the order of the numbers wasn't really the point, more the (hopefully) unique variation.
Thats exactly how I program my hats anyways.

It was like a way to explain "notation"...
Just that a simple loop will be just there same closed hat on every 16th and the other one is formed from, as speakefreake said, different samples but if u use 2 or 4 they will sound pretty boring, if you use 3, or 5 or 6 or i don't know just so it "loops" different from the standard measures derived from 4/4... i don't really know much about notation and polyrythm but it has been talked around here a lot, the point is to create groove using this "technique", of course the numbers were just a try out to explain my self... prolly i can upload a screenshot later but come on, it is not that hard to understand, is it? |

so let me get this straight?
1234 is 4 completely different samples of hi hats?
or is it one sample but pitched differently 4 times to make the variations?

who said anything about pitching samples?
"Different hi hats samples"
Clear enough?
Perhaps i should have done something like:
[1111][1111][1111][1111]
[1234][5612][3456][1234]

ok, let me ask you guys something.
I have a lot of african sounds that came with my battery. I dont have much music experience, but i really know to play drums, i have rithm, always played, but for me is difficult to arranje the pattern i want or that i play in my bongos in my sequencer, with the mouse, or hitting the keyboard keys, is too strange, i cant get the same groove. What you guys do in situations like that? I didnt found a midi bongo yet..
Also, do you think is ok if I download midi files of drums played, just to get the pattern, but use my own sounds? What do u guys think? I dont like and never used premade loops, but im seriously thinking in download some midi files of drums playing
