I'd buy a $700ish one from newegg or some other online retailer you trust - the deals you can get on laptops that are really high powered are absolutely ridiculous right now.
or you can spent 3x the money and get a mac ;p
you don't need an i7 or anything crazy to run live with a shitload of plugins...save money on the computer and put it into a midi controller, or a down payment on some good monitors
I'd suggest a particular brand or type but I haven't purchased a laptop in a couple of years - the $700 range Lenovos on newegg.com are pretty damn nice though. |

customize a dell studio or an xps to your needs: add more ram, processor power whatever you think would be required.

From what ive read on the soundonsound site, there are quite a few issues when buying laptops; dpc latency, fan issues etc. Does any of you have a laptop who is working good, that is without any of these issues, and can recomend me a model? |

I've had my HP DV[some number] laptop for about a year and a half and really like it. It travels around with me a lot, it's been outside a bunch from 30 degrees to 90 degrees and generally gets beat up, but is still running strong (even after I got a trojan about 3 months ago I can still run Ableton with 30+ midi channels).

I´ve been using a HP NX7400 since 2007 and its been through cold weather in sweden to hot climates in mexico and moist places like guatemala, never had a single issue with it except the battery is fucked due to alot of charging ( of course )
I suggest look for the business laptops instead of the entertainment laptops with built in cameras and other crap. The less functions the less things can go wrong.
And also do a clean install instead of excepting the bloated installation that comes with all laptops nowadays.
