Well I wanna make a more oldschool mix of this song and need some hints (references are The Delta or Dark Soho.) Guess I need a bit distortet drums and more oomph. But how can I achive the athmosphere of said artists.....?

distortion yes, feedback loop /larsen kind of stuff , just maybe keep the kick and bassline a bit clean..rest you can use distortion even on buss
i wont advice you to buy this as it s maybe overkill and there is probably plugins that can do similar stuff.. but with jomox t resonator 2 i get tons of sound a la delta with no effort...culture vulture nice too for little tube saturation to 99% thd .. with the logic ones you should get decent stuff already..or try soundtoys and look for plugs that can do resonator/feedback/larsen stuff maybe could be usefull. ( to fake this you could try to use distortion after reverbs to get these long feedback/larsen tail with maybe a resonant filter between..)

Cool, thanks for the tipps.
I checked resonator, found this.
Sounds cool, but reminds me on some stuff I did already with other equipment years ago...
I also like some writing hint or what is really neccesary or should be avoided. I made more industrial/darkwave years ago, so I am still a bit lost for psytrance productions

You should study the tools available at the time and try to stick to those limits. For example: the Roland drum machines were used a lot, so synthesizer drums and XOX kind of sequencing is a must. Other stuff like: how the open hat would interact with the closed hats on such machines is worth taking the time to get familiar with. Besides, you can find many emulations on the plug-in market from D16 group or Arturia's Spark, for example - even if we're talking demos here. Because, it's not enough to have a sample pack of the classic drum sounds from such machines, you need to copy the way they work and restrict yourself to those limitations.
Same thing with the synthesizers: we're lucky that some very good emulations of classics have been coming out from the likes of TAL with their SH 101 (there's also Lush 101 from D16 group, very cool!), and the Juno emulation as well (also look at Cakewalk's Zeta +, very capable of some classic Roland - and Cakewalk and Roland are one group nowadays - sounds). You can get very good emulations of the Mini Moog with NI's Monark, Geforce's MiniMonsta, who also have the great OSCar emulation (it's a synthesizer used a lot by Simon Postford, Eat Static and many others), like the Korg MS 20 - that's now released again and it's sort of affordable, along with other analogue offerings from other developers, namely Moog.
U-he's Diva can surely deliver as well, but doesn't have an arp on it.
Not a big problem: you can sequence stuff to your liking in Midi and looking for what could be done with hardware sequencers of the time can also give you some insights as well.
You can also find plenty of 303 emus on the plug-in market. Also a very decent one from D16, but some people swear on ABL2 as being the best. There's the XOX box thing - much cheaper then the overpriced classic on Ebay! - and doubles as a nice sequencer for other gear and the classic sound of the 303 with it's one of a kind filter, accent and all of that.
Set your sends and returns to fx like you would on a real mixer and with a limited number of effects, of course. There's good stuff from SoundToys and Eventide that can capture the character you may be looking for, also look for lexicon stuff (both the brand and PSP audioware stuff), some nice delays and such things recreating the machines of old age. Analogue modeled EQ is also a must for tone shaping and injecting some character in the sound. I wouldn't clean the sound to much (with digital EQ) if you're really precious about that old sound! Probably wouldn't compress the sound to much, at least wouldn't squash it with a brickwall limiter like there's no tomorrow, like on most modern stuff. Not so polished, not so clean, not so loud but tons of raw sounds with character is probably the way to go, no?
