You connect both midi in and midi out?
if you do, make sure you connect the keyboard's midi in to the sound card's midi out and vice versa. |

what kind of midi keyboard is it ?
and when it doesnt play?
you know i think allready that midi keyboards dont have onboard sounds they just send midi note messages to other sound modules! or to software synths!
and some times they only have a midi out to connect to the midi in of your sound card midi interface etc.
and did you select on your sequencers midi in the midi port where is your kbrd connected to so it can send midi messages to the sound module you use at the time??

yonni.
midi keyboard is connected to sblive via gameport.
u if you have gameport in your device listing, then the only problem that can occur is in your midi software [whatever it is - cubase/logic].
if u don't have gameport installed ... well i guessed it already: INSTALL IT.
boom.

ok:
gameport is installed acurding to the device manager.
the problem is not in cubase because even when i try to use my midi keyboard on the creative virtual keyboard it dosent responce.
the keyboard i use is an old CASIO "casiotone MT-600", and the cable is connected to the soundblaster via joystick input and on the other side i got only one midi connector so its connected to the CASIO midi out. |

then maybe your cable is bad.
take:
1. electronics aware human [it can be a simple pupil]
2. a multimeter.
make the 1. use 2. to check all the fibers of the MIDI cable.
good luck
you can sircumvent this by trying out some1 else's working cable.
