1st suggestion, this topic should be in ``equipament``
Just seek a big and faster hd (7200min)
at least 3gb ram
and choose the best processor you can pay
simple as that
edit: oh well, i dont know very much about motherboards, but the asus ones seems to be good

As far as version of windows, stick to XP.

If you got all that money to spend go for a SSD disk, a quad core ( id go for a PII 940 BE which you can easily overclock 1 Ghz with a schyte cooler and no major tweaking) and 790GX/FX Chipset ( no need for a videocard as you have one built in) Minimum 4 GB of DDR. Or if you want to use DDR3 go for the later PII cpus which are backcompatible with DDR2. But at this moment DDR3 doesn´t really give you the enough performance compared to the price

I dont know if 64 is worth, maybe in sometime. I will get a new laptop and for sure with xp. Altough xp only recognize 3g, you can do some with the other one if you get 4gb, just dont ask me how.

in regards to DDR3 - if you are going for an i7, there definitely is a point, when using triple channel ram - bandwidths are through the roof on the x58 platform. If you are not going for an i7 then there definitely isn't a point and DDR2 ram offers very considerably better value for money.

on 19" rackmount housing it's an advance to know before purchase how tall the computer
will be vertically ... since you can get them housings with 1-5 height units.

I'd love to move to 64bit - whilst I know that 32bit programs will run in WOW compatibilty mode - hardware drivers do not and I have no idea if I'd be able to run my DAW properly.
I'm buying 2 SSD drives next week for RAID.
I love them!

think you'll need a S-ATA3 compatible raid controller for that.
