hey..donŽt know the second one, but the saffire is atm the card, iŽd go for. friend of mine bought it few months ago, and i have to say, great great sound...at least from my position (never worked with some professional equipment like the fireface or similar, so i canŽt figure out exactly, whereŽs the limit), but i liked it very much. good luck

I've heard that the specs of the new Konnekt should be BRILLIANT, and as far as I know the price is really good.. I think I would go for the Konnekt..

hi: i suppose that ur laptop is a mac. because if its a pc i experienced certain problems with firewire audio when having a smaller i-link firewire adapter. i suggest u try it on ur lap if you have the chance. i may be wrong and that only happened with my shitty ,maudio fw 410... if its a pc i could suggest the pcmia option with the emu 1212m , which i think is a very nice card and i like the performance of pcmia on pc laptops. if its mac then u have no problem with firewire.

i have a lap hp pavillion and the first interface i got for it was a m audio audiophile firewire , which i latter changed for 410. i had severe problems with both of them , to the point of being useless. i (and the hp support) think that the problem is that the firewire port isnt the same size as in the soundcard, it has a smaller one which they call i-link. u need a special cable that goes from smal fw to regular. it also means that u have to power the interface with its own dc adaptor, i think that really really sucks, after all the good of a laptop is the portability and simpleness i think... From what ive seen.. if ur laptop has a regular firewire port and can power the unit, it is more likely to be compatible. maybe i am biased against firewire on pc laptops, because i had 2 bad experiences which were with m audio. Right now i have im my lap a pcmia card the echo indigo, which is very reliable and stable, but by no means its suitable for producing (well maybe starting a song when ure on the road),, but the compatibility is perfect!!!, not a single glitch when running ableton live with plenty of heavy audio files and loads of vsts. If i where to buy a souncard for my laptop, i would go for the EMU 1212m pcmia. it has very good converters (same as digidesign), plenty of in -- outs, preamp for mic and guitar, dsp powered effects, and a very cool breakout box, i dont know how good the drivers are though!. Maybe u can check it out, i believe that its the first pcmia interface that features all this professional specs.

my m-audio 410 for laptop working well with small firewire connection...i have a custom built laptop pc..but there is a setting to set up for clicks and pops.U need to use the emulated midi port for your sequencer....Although always connected to electricity...for me never worked without electric power but working fine after that tweak...check google for Midi parapoettica problem
Me neither never heard these soundcards and can't really recommend anything other than rme and motu brands for pro use laptop and desktop...RME needs additional pcmcia card bus....motu no....but all of these want electric power to work....don't know about motu ultralite if need...i worked with motu828 mk2 firewire(just pro no problems and works even without computer as mixer),RME fireface 800(also amazing card) but none of them so portable..check some compact versions of these brands if u want to keep your card for long time
Otherwize next year or the one after u will be posting same stuff here asking what to buy!
