Need help in choosing 1 Softynth to learn

i talk about my personal preference in my posts,i don t like virus caractere anymore , it s years i used and heard it everywhere to the point i can t stand that sound anymore.
add to this all the plugins that sound like a virus... no one would make the difference in a mix if it s a real virus or a plugs... it s like hearing that caractere everywhere .
that caractere beeing very popular in cheesy and commercail stuff, now i associate it automatically
massive to me dont really cut,i made test in full mix trying diffent synth,same preset just to check the one that don t need much processing and cut well.. massive was not really in the top synths |

to me some synths are more or less suited depending the type of sound/mix after so all about preferences. |

I hear what you are saying, but, if you know your way programming synths, you can make the Virus sound very "unvirus" like.
And from what I read, you know your way around programming synths, you just haven't given the Virus a chance again, at the level of understanding and programming, you currently have.
I had the same opinion as you when I had the Polar TI, so I sold it...and a year later a cheap Virus C pops up and being a synth junkie, I said what the hell, its 450€ with rack ears and a big 8 TRS jack loom, I will sell it at that price again if I want.
So I ended up programming the Virus C in a completely different manner than when I had the Polar TI as I had no GUI to program the C with. The result was programming sounds that I found 10 times more useful and for me it was also a challenge as a sound designer...take the most over used synth in cheesy pop, house, trance music and make something good out of it.
The thing with the Virus is, not a lot of people spend enough time with it and a lot of people choose to tweak the factory presets, which are the definition of commercial, cheesy sound.
Spend enough time on it, start from init patches with no FX and if you know your way with synths, you will make some great bread and butter patches.
Its been a different story with my Nord Lead 1, I was in love with its cold digital, harsh sound from day one.
People need to understand, that they should not back up, or dismiss synths like there is something wrong with them. They are just tools and in the case of plastik sounding digital synths, like the Virus, you will never appreciate how well it sits in a mix and how brilliant the contrast is, from analog synths, unless you put it to that test. The modulation matrix of the Virus C, alone, is worth its cash. The sound is not any better than some of the best soft synths today, but it is different and it is a software synth, in a nice box, with knobs that you can program without using a mouse.
Do I use the Virus to make analog like sounds?
Of course not, my Moogs and x0xb0x piss over it, they are real analog anyway.
Do I use the Virus to make some nice raspy, cold FM leads and some crazy sequence modulation sounds with its many LFOs (with wavetables) that my Moogs can't even dream of making? Hell yes.
Dunno what to say, mate, the way I program my synths and construct my arrangements, the Virus sits very easy in the mix, almost as easy as my Nord Lead, especially when I make "question-answer" like synth patches where sometimes an analog synth asks a question and a cold digital synth has the best answer...and vice versa.

Thanks everyone for posting
I have decided to keep trying learning Komplete Synths and now I'm concentrating on MASSIVE - I have subscribed to MACPROVIDEOS .
Diversion is now on sale - only 89$ , so I'm going to buy it anyway in few days ( I like it's sound , and the price is very tempting )

as i said in previous post when you learnd it you gonna love it...
you can buy also if you want sylenth, 100% you gonna use it for many of your sounds too

PoM, I thought about it... Maybe you've developed a thing for synths with a high frequency presence on them, instead of the darker character ones. In fact, from the Virus C onwards, some people do use the internal EQ to push the highs a little bit. And there's a real connection with high frequency and "presence", even for mixing.
what I'm saying is that I can see the point you're trying to make about the character. Not everybody likes the sound of a given synth.
But I trully think you'd change your mind about the "cheesy" part if you were to give it a shot again, because it's very true there's plenty of people out there just tweaking presets, and trying to make the exact same patches everyone uses... But that's not a problem with the synth, there's also plenty of 303 sounds out there to make you sick, and that doesn't make it sound bad, to.
For example, I've grown tired of Roland's supersaw lead. I just can't stand it! But that's me. And probably the fact that it's been used to exaustion in some genres to the point you feel like you've grown alergic to it... But it's not the synth's fault, specially on highly programable synths... |
