need help connecting midi controller to synth

ahoy there
i have reently purchased my first bit of hardware, but have stumbled across a wee problem. I have an m-audio evolution mk-225c midi controller which only seems to have midi out and usb connection. Now the impression i am under is that im connection midi out into midi in on the synth, then midi out into my 2x2 midisport connection which has 2 ins and 2 outs including a midi connection, which ive hooked up to the computer. Now i ahve midi selected on the midi sport (instead of midi thru), that seems to be working fine and my controller is getting power from the usb connection, however because i no longer have usb running straight into the pc, im not getting any messages read in cubase when its running through the synth. have i got my connections mixed up? do i somehow need to install the synth for messages to be sent through back around to the midi sport?
hmm maybe a piccy will help
(midi controller out)---(synth in)-(synth out)---(midiman in A)---(usb outon midiman)-(usb in on pc)
some experienced help will be greatfully appreciated

my apologies not even getting power through usb anymore eitheri had to connect a power source, looks like it needs direct usb connection. |

connect midi controller to pc via usb directly. this takes care of the controller communicating with pc. connect midi out of controller into synth.there will be an option on the controller which says usb/controller. select usb. now ur messages from cubase go to ur synth. |
