Hello Psy freaks,

Here is my very first production after experimenting with ableton live for over 6 months. Still not quite the style I would like to create but its very close. Any feedback on the track ( sound quality, mix, EQing, phasing, etc, etc.) from you kind souls will help me move in the right direction.

Boom!

Well if this is your first production, I have to admit this is very good. A little bit overcompressed here and there, though. you applied a compressor on the master I guess. Better remove it.
Also the kick and bass sound a bit separated from each other.
Other than that it is fine, really. The story is here, nice sounds, no unnecessary breaks etc. Way to go man!

I agree - it is good!! I feel you could use a bit more midrange sounds, but maybe that is just a personal taste thing.

I would say to keep doing what you are doing, you are heading in the right direction. Only advice is to pay attention to the details as much as possible - automation especially - tweak effects, automation, eq etc until everything fits together.

Thanks a lot for that Makus and Architekt, your feedback is noted. Will surely keep that in mind for the next ones.

@ Makus - I did make a couple of other ones before this but they were more experimental and turned out quite cheesy. This was the first deliberate attempt to make kind of nite time full on style. Still a long way to reach where i would like it to be but its finally coming together i think...

1 question - how much time do you guys spend on a track? The problem that i am facing is that by the time i have finished putting together all the sounds in the mix, I am so damn bored of the track that i just want to start a new one. Does this happen to you guys as well?

I think it happened a bit when I was starting off, but now I don't get bored with them. Sometimes I spend up to 100 hours on a track. It usually takes me a long time to play around with different sounds and ideas until I'm happy with the vibe of the track. It's quicker for me now but used to take up to 20 hours of remaking until I had a good foundation to build off. A lot of the time is spent listening to it and getting to 'know' the track.           http://www.soundcloud.com/architektnz
