I've been working on this for a bit and was hoping that some of you might be willing to listen and give some honest and constructive feedback..

THanks for the compliment ninja...it is my first track ever and I've put too many hours into it. I've listened to it so much at this point that sometimes it seems that I can no longer even hear it.

Need to know what others think to gain some perspective...

Thanks ninja...

Is there no one else who's willing to share their thoughts? I would really appreciate it.

pharmakon,

first track huh? well not a bad start i must say.

and now for the feedback:

good start, nice composition. not too heavy on rhythms but the percussion that is there fits well. the dubbed voice is nice. maybe a touch overplayed, but it fits well. i do like the composition. has the night time feel to it. around 3 minutes it would be nice to hear a secondary synth the help it carry it on. you know, to pick up the pace a bit. it gets a bit repetitive up until 6 min, and then you bring in that synth, which is great. your bass is way tooo weak though. what software do you use? if its reason or cubase, i have some great techniques that will help you in mastering your track (i'm a self-proclaimed reason professional;)

let's summarize. you got great choice in sounds for your track. good flow, weak mastering/compression for your individual tracks. a little repetitve, but great work for a first track. a 1000 times better than my first track.
here's a track that i just finished: http://www.organicparadox.com/01blink_tracks/organicparadox-phatnatty(short_mix).mp3

if you like the levels and mastering, i'd be more than happy to help you get this track cleaned up or help you in solidifying your creation process for your next track

great work

Thanks for all of the comments...they're very helpful.

I know the track could use some more overall compression...I have been mucking about with that but I'm scared to lose the dynamic of the track so I've only used a light touch. Though, all the indiv tracks are compressed a fair bit. How much compression do you put on your whole track and the indiv tracks?

You think the bass is too low? Hmmm...I've raised it several times but I suppose I still have some room to give it more in the mix. By the way, I'm using Logic...you don't happen to have any handy tips for that do you? All assistance would be gladly welcome...

As for the song progression...I was trying to give the track a deep and dark progression. I suppose I may have drawn it (the deep minimalist repetitive part) out a bit too much for some tastes, it felt right to me though at the time.

Thanks for the encouragement,

Steve
