cant help much maybe, but just share my experience..
would say im also an advanced fruity user and tried to move to cubase more then one time... always gone back to fruity...
its just frustrating if you can do a bassline in less then 2 minutes in fruity and play with it, and in cubase i need more then 10 minutes to paint a simple kbbbkbbbkbbbkbbb into pianoroll...
i would say learn the pianoroll shortcuts there and your good to go^^
but me is lazy^^ |

Cubase's learning curve is much more steeped.
Of course is not a toy like DAW in which you can make a beat in 3 seconds by enabling some step sequencer buttons.
Cubase has a more professional approach in which midi tracks and audio tracks are differente, midi need to be linked to a vst or midi instrument and of course you have mixer to control each channel inserts, sends and basic eq.
Once you get the hang out of it you can do same stuff than in FL but in another way.
To me, the whole greatness of Cubase comes from the workflow... simply put, working on a straight lane without having to switch to pattern windows, having individual clips to work with and being able to manipulate wav files the way Cubase does is way superior.
I was into FL for about a year and a half then got into Cubase and never, never turned back.
Of course Cubase doesn't have a builtin sampler like FL in which you can just drag any wav sample into sequencer, of course Cubase can be much more tricky since it mimics a multichannel console and probably it will take a lot of time before you can do the same you know how to do in FL but it will pay big time if you persist.
I like cubase mainly for the following reasons:
- Core audio / mixdown quality
- Arrangement workflow
- Off line wave effects and processes
- Tools and general editing capabilities
- Some native plugins are great (Quadrafuzz, Pitchcorrect, Bit crusher, etc.)
Maybe the only thing i dun like bout cubase is the automation, FL is way better there.
If you are just starting and have no idea about music, audio and digital production maybe you should remain in FL until you want to do the jump or maybe just try both and decide which one you want, just don't let the difference of methods in each one to deceive your judgment.

Too bad it's not like that. Sonar has a new killer step sequencer.

free your mind !!!,you have to start to touch cubase daw , don't forget fl ,keep working on fruity ,on time you working on fl ,try stop , and go to cubase, put fixed bpm, create vst instrument, create midi channel . Enable w and r buttons (write , read) every thing that you will do on writed channel will be saved in automation! You have to learn how to record your vst ,for that you have to setup your asio for incoming signal ! Try to enter into the cubase with understanding each step!

Worst advice ever.
Don't install everything that is downloadable just stick to a couple synths / fx units u like and learn them to the fullest.
Less is more. |

Get the Ask Video Cubase Tutorial videos and you'll be up and running in a day or two. (You'll also be watching the tutorials and going "fuuuuuuuu....I can't believe you can do that!!!"
Definitely worth learning. |
