I would like som artists opinions on internet downloads of music via FTP's and other sites/file shares.
Do you agree in any way with this system of music sharing as opposed to purchasing the music direct from a distributor?
Are you using new techniques to stop piracy of you music? If so what?
Is it illegal for DJ's to play copyrighted music at parties?
What happens if they get caught?
Are record lables making efforts to curb Piracy of musicians music signed to their lables?
Do any of you Artists mind your music being played and traded on the internet and at parties for free?
A sub culture has arisen in the trade and sharing of music on net, clamping down on this would destroy many parties and DJ's. What other approaches can be taken to resolve the loss to the Artists revenues?
Many thanks, all opinions are welcome either on this Post or privatly.

"Do any of you Artists mind your music being played and traded on the internet and at parties for free? "
As an artist, i don't mind the idea of a DJ playing my songs at a party, this is why u write music right ?
The problem is that its not like it was a few years ago, where music trading consisted mainly of DAT's & minidiscs being traded by DJ's and other people in the scene, because it was usually confined to DJ's etc.., you had to be in the scene, at the parties to meet up with people, so it helped the scene....
but now all people need is to sit at home with a fast internet connection, and they can have anything they want... they don't have to be in the scene or contributing in any way, and they are just taking what they want (at the expense of artists, because it was mainly these new comers to the scene which bought a lot of the music before)
Our scene was founded on DAT trading etc.. so you can't get upset at people trading music really, what i do get upset about is the method which has become popular of late, that is just type in a name you heard somewhere and search for it, click download and there you have it... where's the work/passion in that ? |

not tht the artists can do much bout the fact tht ppl trade online today ......
its like when i heard skazi a couple of yrs ago n he was bangin Boom shankar n just b4 the sample this kid goes "BOOM SHANKAR " n asher was like WOT DA ###$ Its annoyin for an artist !
buyin originals is much better but availablity is not possible in every country ... so for personal use internet downloads are awrite i guess.

As I say on another forum, it is also good to know a music with a mp3, contact the composer and have a real version to play live...
Mp3 are usualy bad quality and I think that if a DJ want to play a track, he needs quality...
