I would like som artists opinions on internet downloads of music via FTP's and other sites/file shares.

Do you agree in any way with this system of music sharing as opposed to purchasing the music direct from a distributor?

Are you using new techniques to stop piracy of you music? If so what?

Is it illegal for DJ's to play copyrighted music at parties?

What happens if they get caught?

Are record lables making efforts to curb Piracy of musicians music signed to their lables?

Do any of you Artists mind your music being played and traded on the internet and at parties for free?

A sub culture has arisen in the trade and sharing of music on net, clamping down on this would destroy many parties and DJ's. What other approaches can be taken to resolve the loss to the Artists revenues?

Many thanks, all opinions are welcome either on this Post or privatly.

I would like to talk on the behalf of new labels...

We at star jelly records are realy careful with giving out promos and demos to people since that is the main reason people get "UNR KILLARS"...

everyone dont send youre music out to everyone...

I have a feeling, or in fact many feelings concerning this case. Im both an artist and a downloader, i havent released anything yet, but i did some thinking.
1. Labels in this industry cant do shit to prevent... nothing (maybe they could write on the cd that it contains a deadly destructive virus)
2. Copyrighted music at party's ? First of all, how will anyone know that it is copyrighted (what would they compare it to), and if they did who would they call....(would they attampt to punish the poor DJ!?#)
-Of course most artist dont think its cool that there released/unreleased traxx are being copied and distributed by lamers on the internet, unless that was the intention with it in the first place... but they can do shit about it. To me the main problem is not if i have loads of GMS or Britney Spears since they allready have loads of cash... But many small artists dont really get the chance they deserve, due to this totally bad attitude, i share with so many people...
All artists hang on to your music... play only live dont ever release.... or something, then i get to see Britney in person DOH!

You should ask this question in the main section of the forum - not in the scandinavian section

As for the answer.. there's way too many answers according to who you are and what your role is in all of this. As an artists I am getting sick and tired of listening to 1001 bad excuses why people cant afford the music and bla. bla. bla.

I do see it very black & white. I dont agree there are any grey zones in this question. It's my music and hard work your stealing ! And I am the only one that have the right (moral and legal) to decide when and how my music become public. It's not up to some demented mp3 pirates and mp3 virus infected people to decide for me. End of story!

One way forward is education and more education. But sadly there are way too many lost cases out there that dont give a rat's ass aboout artists rights. They simply lack moral and ethics ! They demand and think it's their human right to get music for free and could not care less about the consequences for the music industry and the artists - They will continue feeding their download addiction even if the music become very cheap and easily found.

What should we do? Smile to them and tell them how nice they are? I dont think so. I believe that we should fight back in every way we can and make sure they never do it again. I am sure they would be the first to scream out loud if their Boss suddently thought it was the company's "human right" not to pay them any salery anymore

So education and a carrot would be my first choice and if it fails... well then there's only the whip left! I refuse to give in to people that steal my work and at the same time try to make me look like I am the bad guy.
