Hi ,
I'm going to buy monitors, was thinking about Alesis monitor one mk2 (340$) and an Alesis amplifier (300$),
but after reading threads about monitors here, i'm in doubt=) and thinking about some active monitors, maybe KRK or something...
Can anyone give me an advice what would be probably a best decision for that price? (700-800$)
thanx |

if you are serious about making music for a long time i would suggest to a moderate priced very good active box called yamaha mps 10 or mackie ..since you have a moderate budget i would not suggest krk..rather yamaha or mackie

why only yamaha and mackie? what about dynaudio or genelecs? or some adam or event?
they are all profesional monitors and have affordable and pricy models !
many electronic music artist use dynaudio or genelecs i think they are the most favourite in our scene to!
sorry iff i forget some but i think these are the most well known and tested!

i think a pair of genelec and/or dynaudio costs more than 700-800$ (even the cheapest ones).
I have heard how genelecs sounds and i cannot compare it to nothing:) So if you can afford buy Genelec!:)
Maybe Genelec 8020a which is about 800$ a pair.
Or for that amount of money (700-800$)i think one of the best solution should be Yamaha Msp5a. (msp10 costs much more).
About prices, of course it depends where you buy them, can be different. With luck you can buy some used stuff too which will be cheaper.

Genelecs are definitely an investment for the future.
Or save a little more money and get the 8030a ... 10 Hz deeper bass response than the 8020a. |

you should ckeck out the M-Audio Studiophile BX8A: price is low, great quality (including materials used), and the main advantage for psy producers: a good low frequency response.

Look at tapco aswell, S8 or S5 + subwoofer (which I use) is a good combination. Not perfect... as none are at that price range, but worth considering alongside BX8's and KRK. |

If you're spending $800 why not save up an additional $200-$400 and get Dynaudio BM5a's/Mackie HR 624 or Event ASP6?
Coz trust me at some point down the line you'll get sick of your budget monitors & will have to sell them & get a better pair..So it makes sense to save up for the best one's you can buy..

I used BX8's for two years and my mixes were not so great. Although they "sound good" they are not representative, by that I mean my mixes never sound the same in other places as they do on the BX8's.
I also got Dynaudio BM5p's and my mixes improved dramatically, I would not advize the BX8's; have heard from others they had the same experience as me. I heard from a friend there are other "representative" monitors cheapert than dynaudios, will ask him the name and post it here later.
