You can overload CPU but i won't advice you to do so.

I see the only solution for you is to upgrade pc, memory, mobo and CPU.

Praecox, Mac cost three times more than PC when three pcs have more power than one MAC. Pointless, right?

trancer - basically the only thing you can do is overclocking.. just google for overclocking and you can find loads of information on how to do it.

and please, let's not turn this thread into a mac vs pc thread.

You can also turn off all on-board devices (eg. parallel & serial ports, on-board sound) that you're not using. This will free-up IRQs and may help your system run more reliably if you're having problems with shared IRQs.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Shared IRQ´s makes me think TRANCER is running an ACPI pc, so...disable it!

www.google.com --> ACPI kills audio performance

Is an article posted on Cubase Knowlege Base.

TRANCER's post said nothing about shared IRQs. While it is true that in some circumstances ACPI can be very bad for an audio PC, it is not always the case and you should only ever disable ACPI if you can find no other reason for your PC not to be able to work properly. Symptoms of this include audio-only projects grinding to a halt as soon as MIDI is used.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

ACPI used to be bad for audio PC's, but many new motherboards seem to work better than in standard PC mode using ACPI.

I always used to run standard PC since it seemed almost impossible to get pulsar and logic to run well on a machine in ACPI mode. But when I got an ASUS A7N8X a while ago I was surprised that the opposite is true.
ACPI on most modern motherboards will give you less problems since you will have enough IRQ's to easily make sure that they are not being shared.
So, it depends on what chipset you have on your mobo.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

2 silly questions for all hardcore tweakers out there.

a) in standard PC mode, do you have to push the power button of your pc to actually turn off the computer after you have gone to 'shut down' in XP ? Where that screen appears saying 'it is now safe to turn off your computer'. Is there a way to get a standard PC being able to shut the power itself when shutting down XP, in order to avoid the hassle of pushing the power button ?

b) has anyone ever managed to turn his XP back from standard PC to ACPI without reinstalling windows (either a fresh install or a repair) ?

thanks           http://triplex.trance.net

a) it works in standard PC as long as you have APM enabled in power settings.
On my dell laptop with a magma box with a pulsar inside logic had no timing whatsoever if I had APM enabled, so it seems to be a tweak for some systems to disable it.

b) never tried, it should be tricky. Most people seem to advice to reinstall instead.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

ABIT mobo with nForce2 chipset. Audio works like a charm with ACPI enabled.
