so I've *ahem* tested massive, and I'm really not all that impressed. It has some really cool features and neat quirky ways about it but every time I work with it for an hour or so and then step back and listen to it objectively I think that it sounds really cliché and trendy. And though I liked the different features, I found it to be really convoluted and annoying to figure out; is this just the experience of a novice synth-wizard?

I've also played around with absynth (not as much as massive, but enough) and thought it to be nothing special.

Are the other native programs also just the synths du jour, or would you stand behind them?           http://soundcloud.com/rob-vector

massive is very good, you can be very creative with it. You can get huge pads with it, not just 'trendy' sounds.           Free album out now:

Two things about Massive. The included oscillators, the multistage/sequencer like modulation generator.
I mean seriously, there's nothing to dislike about it.
Yes its a digital synth, but its got a ballsy digital sound.

Its been used like there is no tomorrow in the dubstep scene, but that does not make the synth it self, trendy. It merely makes one aspect of its sound generation possibilities, something that inspires people to make a certain type of music.
There is not much more a synthesizer developer can hope for...besides make people buy it, instead of download it.

Reaktor, well, how deep does the rabbit hole go? and not matter how much free time you thik you have on your hands, its simply not enough.

Absynth, its good, but Sculpture is included in the Logic synths and I can definitely say that it delivers, even if it does not have that elaborate break point, envelope stage.

I would not mind the Maschine in my studio and my live set up.

FM8, haven't bothered to be honest, although I have used FM7 in the past (as I have used the nightmare that is the DX7) and can't see my self bothering for the time being.

All in all, great bang for the buck if you get the bundle.

Peace out.

Yeah just a digital synth, what else u expect? Analog vsti? Massive is not used for classic psy sounds like psy fart, fm leads and squelch... Massive is optimized mostly for sharp metalic leads, and crazy fm modulation, and some industrial atmospheres. Learn the step/lfo/modulation sequencer in it and u will make some unique sounds out of it, the oscillators are also very special, the phaze modulation, the effects, and the filter! Very unique filter that can be found only at massive maybe, specialy the scream filter...

VA - Spiritual Science out now!

Massive is nice for wobble basslines too. I like FM 7 or FM 8 from Native and Absynth and Kontakt and Battery. I think Reaktor is the most powerful tool made by N.I. though and only this plug in is a great investment.I still need to get it at some point.

man, NI for me is a necessity. Especially Battery, Guitar Rig and Kontakt (Awesome live instrument packs sold for this). Especially since And I just started learning Absynth and already the sonic possibilities seem limitless. Though FM8 and Reaktor sound like i need to spend some time reading about before synthesizing with. All in all, i like their GUI and the fact that so many packs and exensions are available. .

+1 on komplete. Bought it in july and still have not explored half of it I guess. Absynth is just great and i hope i will start with massive soon....no clue how it works yet
After that I'll get onto FM8, but that can take a while I guess....

..And we already had a lot of fun with guitar rig and recording a guitar then(although nothing productive came out at the end           My first track:
