Major new product for Guitarists launched at Musikmesse...
Probably the biggest piece of news from the Native Instruments camp at Musikmesse was the announcement of Guitar Rig - a one-stop solution for guitarists and producers. Guitar Rig combines a sophisticated software package that offers a vast array of guitar sounds, with a high-quality foot controller that will give guitarists extensive control over their sound.
Guitar Rig offers a selection of classic and modern guitar amplifiers, cabinets, microphones and effects that can be combined into a virtual rack. This allows guitarists to create a wide number of guitar setups each having their own characteristic sounds. It also integrates three classic tube amp emulations that were developed after extensive study of three classic amplifiers - the Mesa/Boogie Rectifier, Fender Twin Reverb and Marshall Plexi 50W. As well as this, there are more than 20 effects including various distortions, reverbs and Wah Wah styles.
The modular structure of Guitar Rig means that users can combine any amplifier or effect in any order. This makes the sonic capabilities available to the guitarist extremely vast. More than two years dedicated research went into the recreation of the amplifiers and effects units of Guitar Rig, all based on sophisticated analog modelling algorithms.
Guitar Rig also ships with the "Rig Kontrol" foot controller that offers 4 foot switches and a parameter pedal. This allows for convenient present selection and direction control over any parameter of the Guitar Rig software that the user assigns to it.
Guitar Rig comes loaded with a vast library of audio loops of various styles that the user can play along to. It can run as a standalone application without the need for host software and also supports all major plug-in formats and audio sequencers.
It will be available in July 2004 at a recommend retail price of $499.

Hello dj Eksco..
Speaking as a hobby-guitarist, I feel kind of funny putting the sounds from my humbuckers trough a computer. I know that there are loads of guitarists out there that feel the same, and that's probably why there are still loads of vacuum tubes manufactured and put in guitar amps out there.
But probably they will sell a lot of these, because there are also a lot of guitarplayers that are to lazy to drag around with a big Marshall JCM 800 and a 4x12" to their recording sessions.
(In sweden we call them "dansbandsmusiker" )
cheers!

sWa: Hehehe.... well, some "dansbandsmusik" can be pretty amusing. I got this album from a friend, called "Kvart-i-två-dansen" which was hillarious..
(Lot's of humour in it though).
With hits like "Du blir nog aldrig fröken sverige" and "Mustaschen"
(Seriously offtopic post )

Well, back to topic...
The price of 499$????? Shit, you could get a real amp for that price.
Or if your into DSP-stuff like this, you could get a Line 6 pod XT for that money, which is probably the best digital processing unit for guitars that I've heard.
Now I just have to give this a try, to see if it's any near worth that kind of money. |
