Havent listen to it , my opinion ..
only thing i can say , its cheap , and does a little bit of everything , thats good -- not good ,, from the point u want it , i dont know but for music production i would recommend something better like MAudio, E-mu4 in the same range of money
NI is an excellent company of soft synths , but has nothing to do with audio interfaces , at least in the way the other companies do ..
Just dont buy something that u may want to sell it after a couple of months .. thats all

I have one and I am 100% happy with it,,

And it got really good reviews:

The Audio Kontrol 1 is an excellent portable USB audio interface."
Electronic Musician Online review, US, 07/2007

"The audio quality, both for recording and monitoring, is excellent. Audio Kontrol 1 is a class act, and the audio quality feels like a touch of luxury"
Sound On Sound, UK, 03/2007

"The versatility of the Audio Kontrol 1 is far beyond what you would expect of an audio interface, and the control software delivers a very high degree of creative customization potential. The solidly constructed device has clearly laid-out controls and is perfectly suited for studio or field use."
Editors' Choice Award!
MacLife, US, 03/2007

"If you're after a stylish and solid performer then look no further."
Future Music, UK, 03/2007

"This is a very impressive, very portable interface that's been designed to meet the needs of the vast majority of mobile musicians."
Innovation Award!
Computer Music, UK, 02/2007

"Audio Kontrol is a well-constructed product... incredibly low latency and pocket-sized form factor make it a fine choice for light-duty portable recording. The assignable knob and buttons are especially convenient for impromptu sessions in the air or on the road."
Future Music, US, 02/2007

"The Audio Kontrol 1 elegantly combines the features of a small, high-quality USB recording interface with a controller so that things like transport commands and virtual instrument parameters are at your fingertips. Strengths of the AK1 include excellent build quality, great audio specs, small size, and a great software bundle."
Tape Op, US, 01/2007

"The Audio Kontrol 1 is an ideal audio interface for gigging laptop musicians, offering twin stereo outputs, solid construction, built-in controllers and a great collection of bundled software."
MusicTech, UK, 01/2007

Have to agree with gutter.

What you got to appreciate is that those magazines reviews are not independent.

Think about how much it costs the manufacturers to advertise in them!! those accounts are worth a lot of money. Are they then going to give those companies bad reviews? Of course not or they will just close the accounts.

Basically the reviews are pretty much useless.

I have to agree with gutter as well. At least up to a certain point. I have read quite a number of pretty honest reviews in Sound on Sound though.

????

thats possibly the biggest crap I have ever read in this forum!

The Kontrol is a good medium range interface.. definitly above EMU and definitly a lot above m-audio. I don't recommend M-audio in any case.

I have the kontrol 1 for live gigs and the RME fireface at home.

As for playback quality the kontrol gets very close to the fireface, IMHO.
Recording quality is definitly worse then fireface, but still far enough to work seriously...
