hi there!
i´ve been thinking a lot about the question for years now.
the inconsistency between claim and "reality".
the claim to live a psychedelic culture opposing the values and logic of industry/ commercialism/ consumption/ selfishness...
the "reality" of unthoughtful behavior, egoism, the closeness to superficial, fetish-like consumption culture (drugs; only the very latest music/ computers/ synths/ samplers/ consumer electronics in general etc.)

what the fuck is happening to the once so peaceful culture that actually was on a higher step of consciousness and evolution (not only samples in numerous tracks but way to see things and to live with respect for the others and nature...)

what´s the logic and where´s spirituality?

what about the credibility of a scene always talking about letting it go and losing malicious ego but behaving the extreme opposite - i see a lot of egocentrism everywhere, even more than in some more mainstream scene...

Off course once it is big and commercial it cannot maintain the original message and mindset exactly the way it was when it started.....once something is discovered by the world it will start to lose its original magic.....but it is still there, fleeting and temporary yet still possible to achieve anywhere, anytime.

Just keep your eyes, ears, and heart open, and you will find it again.

EYB- Your statement may or may not be valid here, but by discrediting any possiblilty of it existing, you are ruling yourself out of being a part of it if(or when) it happens. Call me a dreamer if ya want, but I know when they happen I will be there.

Peace,
Spliffnik

You might be a dreamer spliffnik, but it is dreamers that change the world, others have no time. (deja vu (or entendu): i heard that somewhere yesterday, don't remember where, might have been on token to thrill)           Load Universe into Cannon. Aim at Brain. Fire.

You are asking about the "credibility" of the trance scene?
Well, most people who are not into it and even some who are, only think about a bunch of drug flip-outs danceing to bumbum music anyway.

I got disillusioned about the psychedelic culture quite some time ago, when I found out that not everybody who likes (psychedelic)trance music is also believing in humans as spiritual beings and the interconnectedness of the universe.

That that was different, when the psychedelic community was small and has changed in the same way as the scene got bigger, has been discussed here before and usually ends up in having the "old crew" saying, that the newbies don´t know about the good old spirit and the "new crew" calling the old ones winching morbits.

Still I feel, that the magic is not completely lost and that there are still people keeping the spirit up and having dreams and visions.

I´ll be there too, spliffnik

well said, spliffnik.

And I think it's important to remember that with the experiences we have on the dance floor - you know the ones I'm speaking of - we begin to reveal our true selves. Over time as these experiences manifest in our daily lives, sometimes it's not only the positive qualities that reveal themselves. sometimes it also includes the negative ones. so egocentrism may be something that we have, and some may have it more than others, and it comes out, it reveals itself. but it's the responsibility of each of us to recognize and acknowledge it. not fight it, but love it as we love our best qualities and maybe in that way we will become less egocentric and come from a place of love.

This is why I actually think we, psytrancers, need to be even more aware and responsible for our behaviour. we have received something special and magical and it requires perhaps more work because we have reached another level of consciousness, and it means a bigger challenge in acting accordingly in our daily lives.

Pointy, I was going to say the same thing. that's very true. what I see happening in psytrance is a lot like what I saw happen to punk rock. and I feel the same optimism as you.

dude, what's a winching morbit?? anybody calls me that I'll kick his ass

just kidding!

I agree with all! And think that's why it's very important to not push this scene onto people forcefully, who don't understand as that would aid in the commercialism......I know that may sound selfish and anti-"trance", but I feel it's the opposite...

I too was one that didn't understand the spirituality of it all until later and would never have until I was personally ready. Also some people will just never get what it is truly about. So, making it too available to the masses will cause the same effect as Punk Rock.....And again, what else, but money talks....
assumption is the mother of all fuckups.

thanx very much for your constructive posts.

i read a very interesting theory in another thread a little while ago, and it said that once, the proportion of "initiated" and "non-initiated" was in balance so that the newbies could be introduced into the "peace and respect culture"..
now the initiated people cannot stand the overflow of newbies anymore which means that we got plenty of "non-initiated" unoriented people. the "old-established" ;-) cannot handle the initiation rites anymore because of this unproportional situation.

so i do very much agree with you, Uncle Bob, that the advertising of our scene cannot be our goal. we do want other people to join us, but it can only succeed when this happens organically, not when it happens the capitalist way (marketing, advertising everywhere etc.), cause this way the growth gets disproportionate.

and:
i´ll be there too when it´s about "breathing the psychedelic spirit"

I totally agree with you deejayridoo the scene is now full of "non-initiated" unoriented people and so we strive to keep the real trance culture concept alive!

Count me in. Exept i'm not 100% old and not 100% newbie.. (if you get my point) I live in the city and i love the city. But i also appriciate the good norms of the old psyculture. The thing is that i'm a terrible realist with a wide open perspective. as i'v said many many times before. 3 big words, peace, love and unity
