Problem is not in the final mastering... Problem with thin and small sound is the problem of the mix.

For wider sound use patches and samples that are wide. In case of mono synths and instruments make another track with same sound and pan one hard left and other hard right. Use a very mild mono chorus on both with slightly different settings. That will make it sound 3 times wider than before. Chorus and doubling is only one of many options. Stereo spread FX can also be a solution but they always sound a bit sterile.

Small sounds can get larger. Apply some large room reverb with small amount of tail and larger amount of ER. Mild distortion will add some high harmonics. Chorus can also make sound larger. Layering is all about making a large sounds. Unison synths also. But not all of these will help in all the cases. The best thing you can do is to select samples and make patches that will be large and fat enough. Compensating in the mix is possible but it is better to have more fatness than you need than having less. Rather cut than boost.

So until you explore all the techniques for instrument tracking and placement of sounds in space and mix I strongly suggest that you focus on choice of sounds with some frequency analyzer in field of view. It shows you how big the sound is in a manner of frequency content and by that means you can "see" what you can't hear. So beside practical use a frequency analyzer is good for ear training also.           "It occurred to me by intuition, and music was the driving force behind that intuition. My discovery was the result of musical perception"

- Use a stereo eq. Pan some soundregions (hz) to the left, some to the right.

- Use a stereo delay with different settings (like the chorus trick shamantrixx mentioned)

- Use more than 1 oscillator, tweak your sounds decently like different efx, lfo assigned shit to each oscillator (depends on what sound you want offcourse)

- eq each sound thoroughly: where the sound has no effect, cut it, this makes more room for other sounds and thus gives more opportunity to beef your sound.

- try the 'brainwave synchronizer' effect in cooledit (esepcially on voicesamples)

etc.

Good luck!           http://www.soundcloud.com/bandarlog

I'd advise maybe not using studio tricks to make sounds bigger but making better use of the space in more simple terms. I find it's so much easier to do a fat sounding mix using only mono sound sources and making good use of the stereo field by panning them left and right accordingly. If you go mad on stereo effects for the sake of it, it will only clutter up the mix in the long run. Use your own discretion on that one.

Also remember when using chorus, although it gives the illusion that a sound is wider, it will also push it back in the mix, as will most stereo effects.

I swear by the above mentioned frequency analyzer training. Knowledge of the spectrum is everything. The tools are just a means to correct what can't be acheived with the sounds alone. My tracks started sounding much bigger when I made a concious effort to spend less time on processing and much, much, much more time on tweaking the original sound.

I'd agree with soulfood on being careful and not going crazy with chorus/widening plugs/stereo fx etc.. They definitely have their place in a good mix, but should not be applied to every synth/fx in your track. Keeping some leads/fx centered is very important.

I'm not sure how effective stereo eq'ing really is, sounds to me like you might actually end up with a thinner sound at the end of it.

My advice - make sure the sound coming out of your synth before you put any fx on it as already as phat as possible. Use good synths, tweak your presets properly etc..

On my master chanel i have the waves linar eq
and the L2.

adding the LIMB Multi Compresor after the EQ will change the total mix or only will make it sound bad?

will it be good after exporting the file(with the eq and limiter) uses the ozone unit ?
