From Israel's USTA (Underground Sound of Tel Aviv) label comes Lish's debut, Dejavoodoo, a slightly warped collection of low-range whirrs, hardcore British house, animalistic synthesizers, and standard Goa dynamics. Lior Maymon and Shai Tiab like psychedelic trance, but obviously prefer its darker edge. "Spastic Elastic," a fine name as any for a song, is unhappy dance music with very crunchy beats and uses hovering sub-melodies that recall the isolated romance of Chapterhouse, which is interesting. As a matter of fact, while it sometimes can be a bit ponderous and serious for your typical dance album, most of the time Dejavoodoo is a respectable addition to 2002's intensifying wave of Israeli psy-trance |
