Just to inform some of you, there is no Windows Vista official release in near future! You speak of it like it been already released or going to be released next month.

One big advantage of AMD is that the single and dual core processors use the same socket and are compatible. (Not so with Intel). Also you can use a single processor in a dual/quad/octo socket motherboard. No need to fill everything up in one go.

For my next DAW I would like a quad CPU Tyan motherboard for AMD. You can start running it with one single-core CPU and later, when the CPU chips get cheaper and/or more money is available, upgrade up to four dual-core CPUs (or 8 dual-core CPUs with the extention board!) . This is a great upgrade path!

It doesn't make sense to me to buy an Intel machine at the moment.

PS: There are still very good NF3 motherboards arround which work fine. So you can get a dual cpu motherboard now and only one CPU if your budget is limited.

Well I hed two Asus MB thet got BURNED LIKE HELL.
Yes it is a fast MB but not realy stable. I would realy go for some Gigabyte or EPOX. Asus IMO is a gamer's MB and for home use.

O and one more thing AMD rulZ!

did you put any fans to your computer case? the p5wd2 is passively cooled, which is nice. but of course, it needs fresh air and a better air flow.

Yes 3 fans on a back of case and one on the side of case. Cooling wasn't a problem. May be bad series of MB etc. I don't know but one thing I know for shure never again Asus.           Never let computers to win a game! :)

ASUS is for sure among the most solid boards.
I had them recommended by soundcard manufacturers and most the serious audio PC freaks I know use their boards.

But motherboards is sensitive and hard to test properly before sending out, so with any brand it can happen that they don't work as they should.
It happened to me as well but the shops usually are aware of that it's not unusual and both times I got a replacement without discussion.

Unfortunally they don't have any nF3 mobos on the market now, so the Gigabyte K8NSC is the one I would currently go for.
Intel is just out of the question IMO considering the price/performance ratio.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)
