1 gig more ram to be able to run fat Sample based VSTi's (stylus rmx for example takes about 300 meg of ram with NO PATCHES loaded).

Rest sounds fine, get a PCI based sound card for best performance (preferably m-audio or rme)

Nowadays, music sequencers have to work with at least 1g, you can see in your box.... I personally have 1g and a higher spec PC than this one and many times the PC starts to slow down and i need to freeze tracks, so i would suggest to buy another Kingston's, vst's are getting more and more CPU hungry, that is why they are becoming better than the real thing (in some cases). Of course there are ways of fighting this, through the use of more bounced wav's and less fx, or only send fx's, but overall just buy some more ram, at the moment I'm waiting to receive 1 more g for my PC.....

it's enough it's more or less what i'm going to by in some weeks. you don't need ram now and you can upgrade it later if you need it so no problem... go for it !

EDIT: err btw... asus motherboard and pentium processor? :S

I would got for dual core 2.8khz with dual 1/2mb cache, probably more GB of RAM would be nice. If you think to use sample based synthesizers or samplers you would need those additional 1GB sticks. I work with sample based synths and large sample sets, so i can say from experience you need those 2GB.
Do not forget as soon as Windows Vista going to be released, you will have ability to use more than 1.5GB of ram within Cubase, so get two sticks of 1GB each (dual set/channel ram).
Well most of ppl here advice the same things, i don't know why you need such large hard drives but it you your own case.

Thanks all!

The main reason for singe core processor is the very expensive price of dual core processors.

P4 3.0 GHz S-775 2x1M Cache DUAL-CORE costs almost double than the one I chose.

The only option for me is going on the P4 2.8 GHz S-775 2x1M Cache DUAL-CORE which is a little bit expensive.
Should I go for it?

As far as I know a lot of programs (includes cubase) doesn't fully support dual core.

The AMD issue
--------------------
I struggled a lot should I buy Intel or AMD based computer.

There is no doubt that AMD is more powerful and more suitable for music creation, but the NF3/NF4 chip is the main problem.
NF3 chip motherboards tend to become a little bit older, and NF4 chip motherboards makes a lot of problems using single core processors.

Does anyone produce music using NF4 motherboards and AMD? what is your impression?

Soundcard
--------------
My next purchase gonna be Creamware Scope Project.

i read about the new dualcore 2.8 with 2x2 cache. They are at about 270.... it's not right to say that cubase doesn't support dual core, as it does, 100%. All hyperthreading supporting software supports dual core by definition as well... 64 bit is different stuff all the way.

Now if I had to choose between 3.2 (or even .6) single and 2.8 dual I would go for the dual.           ----------------------------------------------

fl studio doesnt support dualcore cpus and logic 5 also

and please not make the mistake on going to vista so fast let it mature a bit in the market !
