Hello people , greetings from Mexico, My name is Daniel , Im starting to making music , I discovered some interesting thins creating basslines.
First of all If you have a low frequence of Kick , your bass must to be different frequence , example:
Kick Frequence 400 hertz
Bass 600 hertz
But if you have a High frequence of Kick the bass must to be under kick frequence
Kick 600 hertz
Bass 400 hertz
this is the idea , Kick and bass must be a little diferent frequence.
Another thing , I use for the kick channel a parametric eq, and a compressor, same for bass in another channel in ableton, or cubase or fruity loops whatever program .
The middle Frequences of the kick I reduce in the eq those DB, and increase the gain of the high frequences bands , because there it is the click sound that separate to the basses.
With the Bass line reduce the high frequences bands of the parametric, dont need this frequences with bass lines.
I recomend always in the bass lines use high frequences because it is most easy to eq that frequences, because are digital sounds in the VST, with the analog sounds are different, I readed in the analog frequences analized in a spectrum oscilloscope the curve are a perfect parabola and with the digital are points like squares making a parabola.
I hope this helps you , maybe I am an error but thats are the porpuse of this forum help us , sorry my english Im Mexican only on the web sites like this I practice my english.
See ya

Or you can just use side-chain compression.

Not really. The "parabolas" and "squares" have nothing to do with eqing, and if you're working at 24bit, most chances it will never actually have any impact on the sound quality.

yes i generaly kut from 350-500 from kik to take out a bit of the boxiness then kut 800-1100 from bass to lesson the digital sharpness |

depends on the original sample btw
i don't like the specific eq ranges.. it all depends on the sample!

Agree with Mike A,
The right pitch of the kick is important.
If you creating a kick drum in sound forge right, so you will only need Fade in and Fade out a kick and nothing else. maybe but maybe 500hz cut for some dynamics ,maybe if you want to , dont boost !
other comercial ,hip-hop ,dub etc need some work .
some tip : the kick should be not longer then 200ms and then you can have right freq nomber ,it should start from C2 and on or downer a bit ,around 150hz(i prefer 130hz).(Xerox ,Eskimo,Star-x and others)
cheers

Kick is made by pitch bending.
So far I have just eq'd my kicks to fit my bass. Can you really say a kick is in the key of C2 or whatever ?
Thanks. |

yeah pitch bend ,
you bend both mics ,highs and lows.
and then you see in cubase's statistics the estimated pitc(EX:_C2/129.9hz_or_F2/188.8hz).
well , bending high tak and low boom with sub woof of your kick drum right(actualy creating a fisicaly aproved pith bend of the kick),you can see and tell estimated pitch of the drum ,only seeing it in sound forge and knowing what kind of kick drum you are creating.Yes ,personaly i consantraite more on bending nether on estimated pitch but with the time i realised, that specifik drum sound witch i like is 129.9hz or C2(in cubase's statistics).
Finaly , you dont need to fix with eq much if you bend it right with sound forge's pitch bend(i mean boosting or extrimely cuting some where),you put only HPfilter and LPfilter ,with could be Fade in and Fede out,and maybe cut on 500hz only ,if d like too.
and i think all this estimated pitch things should go to creating your personal drum kit ,by pithcing all the drum's components in right relation beetwen each other, like in real drums set up.
cheers
