if its any consolation, here's a horror story for you..
about 10 years ago I got robbed at gunpoint, and the thugs took my brand new jp-8000 and yamaha 16 track mixer. my roommate and I both got pistol-whipped, and had to go to the ER. especially sucked too, cause I was about to get some...

anyway they found the guys, and all of them got caught, and ended up serving some time. never saw my gear again, but was supposed to get monetary restitution which I never saw...

hopefully you will get your stuff back, but if not, life goes on           Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!

harsh lesson but anyone reading this DON"T leave your shit anywhere that isn't as secure as you can get. a locker is probably the safest place to store anything while you are traveling failing that a backpack that is fucken chained to you.

+1 to insurance. Although in my case it may not help... to claim, you need a police crime report, and the embassy in Lisbon is holding onto mine until the promoter of the event I played at pays them what he owes them, which he has lied and bullshitted me about for the past week - on Friday he told me he'd "given the money to the security guards outside the embassy". The fact that he can lie and bullshit about €31 - and the fact that I only have his word that my laptop and soundcard etc. are even mentioned on the police report in the first place - makes me wonder what else he's lied about.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

perhaps you should make public the name of the promoter and the event so that others can be aware before dealing with him / them           http://www.reverbnation.com/thecontrolzeds

Seems that when I reminded his business partner (who is himself organising a big festival in NY at the beginning of July) how small the scene is it lit a fire under his ass. I've just spoken to the embassy; the debt has been paid and the crime report is on its way.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

word! that is so true. just to clarify I didnt mean anything negative at all by my post, this embodies it well. for every hardship there is a reason, and a resolution

in the end, i never got my stuff back, but several years down the road, some good karma came my way, and probably more when I needed it then back then

i have the deepest empathy for your situation.           Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!

Colin, im really sad about your loss, once i too got my passport (and car-keys) stolen in Portugal, however that's nothing compared to how i'd feel if someone nicked my soundcard (got a multiface aswell).

The following is not to be percieved as me being a wise-ass:
My experience from parties around europe tells me that its very individual how serious the organizers are in protecting the artists and their gear (or to generally take anything serious) - as this being the situation, I rarely bring anything besides a laptop to parties (also this avoids strange situations in airports, with people questioning about your doings in the current country). It is not optimal!           www.parvati-records.com
