A few days ago i bought the LiquidMix and the Saffire Pro 10i/o. Saffire is great sounding and installed without any single problem.
But LiquidMix seems to be totally incompatible with my system. I would avoid buying it if the info by the Focusrite was more sufficient.
I use Win XP PRO SP2 with the latest firewire fix for AMD based systems. I also got a separate pci firewire card to connect the LiquidMix as recommended by Focusrite. The pci fw card is one of the three recommended by Focusrite. So technically speaking, i did everything by the book.
The result is that LiquidMix is not working properly at all. When connected to the pci fw card it isn't detected at all most of the times, and if it does it freezes. Anything else connected there works perfectly. When connected to the Saffire Pro it is detected and i can use it in my DAW. I use Sony Acid Pro 6.
And here comes the best part, well it's actually 2 parts.
Acid doesn't render wheb LiquidMix is used. Basically it does but without LiquidMix because Acid has a fixed buffer size above 1024 samples, which is the highest for LiquidMix to work. This will be fixed with v.2 soon, but it would be very nice if Focusrite had mentioned something in their website.
And the second part is that after i save a project with LiquidMix, when i reopen it i get a "LiquidMix General Firewire Error" and the project freezes. I can close it without rebooting, but if i open another project without LiquidMix then the sound is affected and i get it playing like static noise. It's obvious that it messes up the Saffire's audio driver since it's also firewire. And now i have to reboot.......
It's a shame because i really liked the device and how it sounds from the little time i spent listening to it. But as it seems i'm taking it back and swap for a UAD-1 card.
If by any chance you have anything to suggest, please do so.
Alex.

Thanks for the reply.
I forgot to mention that i did what you suggest as well. At first install of the LiquidMix, there's an exclamation mark on the devices for LiquidMix but after i install the driver everything is ok, at least on the devices menu.
But still doesn't work.

i'll say make a new frash install, uninstall all LMix driver inc FW card and restart, then install FW card driver first and then the LMix>driver, i'm sure its a driver problem... |

I totally agree it's a driver problem but from which side? I did what you mentioned, uninstalled LMix, uninstall pci fw card and remove it from pc and put it back again. It installs automatically so not much i can do for the pci fw card. Then install LMix but the same problem over and over again.
I think the problem is on the LiquidMix driver. The software verion is 1.5 but when the hardware controller initialises it shows version 1.2 I don't know if this has anything to do with my problem but i really can't figure out anything alse.

Thanks again for the links. I already have read everything there and search over the net and forums for similar problems, but nothing. I have emailed Focusrite, but i already decided to swap it for a UAD-1 card hoping that this will work.

Sorry to hear that.
Did you try another firewire cable?
Cables can cause much more trouble than many think.
There will be a new driver version available 2.0, "early april" they say.
Do you have the saphire on an own firewire card?

Tried many different cables, even a 4 to 6 pin. Nothing. The Saffire is connected in the motherboard's fw input.
The version 2 will fix the rendering problem i have with Acid, but i don't think it'll fix anything else. It seems like the LM controller maybe defected.
