I have this pair for 2.5 years, and had one of the two repaired last year.
It sounded all dull without any high frequencies.
So they probably replaced that tweeter, and when it came back it sounded back to normal again.
But comparing it to my other (unbroken) monitor, all of a sudden this one sounded very dull and everything but crisp.
Well I thought, maybe it's just the repaired one which needs a little play-in time to settle and then both will sound identical.
But this never happened.
Right now, I'm stuck with 1 crisp and one dull sounding monitor, and there's even a big difference in the lower frequencies.
Basically this screws the stereo-image as it will give me a false impression of the sound.
Say I'm working on a bassline and pan the sound all the way to the left and then to the right monitor to compare its sound, it appears like two different basslines, almost made in different keys.
This is soooo frustrating because I really don't know if I should trust my left or right monitor.
And guess what,?! when I switch to my KRK KNS-8000 heaphones (because I thought they would match nicely to my KRK monitors), my mixes sound worse than ever!
I think I better ditch this pair and go look for something else.
But I really have no cash to go buy something better.
So what do you suggest I should do?
Throw the worst monitor out of the window and buy another single RP8 with the chance of it not sounding identical again or should I better save for something better? |

Save for something better.

Is there someone in your area that have the same speakers? Than you can compare which one sounds like the real one and which is crap. Also did you call the repair company to tell them your problem? maybe they did not put the same tweeter back. But just one they had laying around.
Produce with your headphones i'd say until you have speakers again you can trust .

Stating the obvious but if the monitors have EQ switches/knobs (I'm not familiar with this model), check to see they are set identical on both speakers.
Other than that, if the tweeter and/or woofer needs to be replaced, order one in from an authorised dealer and replace it your self, its very easy and will cost you much less.
Peace out.

I think my non repaired monitor was slowing going bad too.
But it wasn't after I got the repaired one back, till I noticed how bad it really was.
But the warranty period was already over by then.
So I don't think I really have a case, since I then must have returned both monitors within the warranty period and have both of them repaired.
Maybe I will just see what it takes to replace any tweeters myself. |
