Hi... i want to learn how to make sounds like this:

http://download.yousendit.com/87D23B2909636D26

Sample at 0:07 that sounds like a dying velociraptor n_n

Somebody told me it is from a sample library... anyway, imagine i wanna make it from scratch, what do you think it requires?

I think something like that can be achieved with DiscoDSP Discovery, with formant filter and built-in distortion enabled. Plus some automation of volume and filter parameters, and some extra-processing (eq and reverb, maybe something else)

First of all it requires that you find a velociraptor, a dying one would be the best!!

Otherwise, you'll have to kill him slowly, so you can maximize the number of different dying sounds you can record in one take

Sorry mate for not being helpful at all but i just couldn't resist.......

Alex

PS. On the serious side, i think your best bet is a special effects sample cd, but i'm sure you already know that.           A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life.

nice sound, from which track is it?

mybe try this one in discoverye, i will also test it tomorrow cause i'm also interessting in doing this:
use the osc which you can pitch, and use a pulse wave and set the symmetry of the pulsewidth all to the right.
Now set the pitch veeery low and try to modulate it by hand up and down...
will also try it tomorrow, but maybe i'm also completly wrong           http://soundcloud.com/seamoon

ok here's what i come up with, not very similar but it goes in the direction....

i did the same what i wrote but used a saw wave and modulated the pitch and the filter (lowpass with lot resonance), and added a bitcrusher for more "voice" feeling...

I think this is a basic saw with very low pitch, high hipass, phaser and filter automated...           Psy stuff : myspace.com/neyaprod

didn't you read? Even if it is from a sample the point here is this sound gestation process, i already got tons of samples; i wanna learn how to create them.

Seamoon i think you are close to it, maybe some reverb+chorus would help, i'll try when i get home.

Thats great man, u really helped..
Do I need to find real velociraptor or can I just took samples from Dino crysis game or just took samples from a movie
?
Man u got any similar tutorials?

For instance how to get that ducking effect everyone is talking about..

I searched all over but I just cant find that duck sample and I dont wanna buy duck just for the sample..
Is there any trick in how u pinch a duck so that it releases that duck sample?
Or u just stand there near the duck with a microphone and wait till sound comes out from the duck?
Dont get me wrong man, I wanna do ducking, not that rubber duck..           http://www.myspace.com/djacidkills
