Some really good quality music (also soundwise) is created in very crappy (treated) studio's. So make sure you spend alot of time making music and comparing your results with commercially available ones. But do take in consideration that they have been properly mastered.

5x5 is not little - it's huge (for a home studio). Mine is around 4x4.5 and it feels enourmous.
I'm with the people who say that acoustics is important.
ITS VERY IMPORTANT!
Bass traps on every possible corner.

No idea, never heard them.
But with proper acoustics, most decent monitors will be adequate.

the difference will be the bass. go for the 80`s.
i have had the 50`s in a smaller room than yours.
the bass was too weak.
cheers

if you have the cash sort out yourself a more than decent pc, your pc is the heart that pumps everything!! shitloads of ram and quad processors, pref i5 or i7, and high end coolers.
its true that nowadays standard pcs can do the job, but theres a job and theres a JOB. try opening 2 instances of omnisphere, 2 instances of waldorf largo vst, 2 instances of trillian, 30 tracks in ableton and a ton of other effects in your daw and you will see if you wont regret getting a mean machine from the beggining!!. i know, been there and done that!, you will waste more time bouncing stuff to save cpu power than actualy doing music cause your pc is too slow to do the heavy lifting! |

It might be better to buy a good soundcard and connect your monitors to that. Otherwise just buy a simple cable like the one shown. Small jack to tulip.

monitors come with power cables only.
if you can't afford a 'good enough' soundcard now, just go with a cable like this and get the interface later.
and check the connections of your monitors first, before you buy cinch! ;-) else you might feel anger on the day your monitors arrive. |
