If your looking for something a little lower in cost but still analog try looking at the Dave Smith Mopho.

I had the original Evolver for a few weeks in my studio. Its quite versatile and goes a long way further than the basic analog monosynth sounds (that feedback circuit!), yet I could not bypass the digital signal path of it. The digital hipass was non resonant and its VCF was not that great, turning up the resonance was not sounding very nice either.
I actually thought the digital side of it, sounded more interesting...
BUT, it is cheap and offer a lot for the cash. Still I'd get the Phatty, it pisses over it for traditional analog LPF patches.

I don't consider this a hard choice at all, the Lead is very digital sounding, yet sounds great. But there is a lot of soft syntsh that can somewhat cover the stuff you'd do with the Lead. I guess you can say the same with software that emulates the Moog sound, but if it was me, I'd go down the real Moog road. Its a synth you will never stop using. Basically you got all your psy-trance basslines (old school goa/modern thumping full on) covered + you can make some great kicks as well...and that is before you go into the leads and resonant filter sweeps, territory. The 24dB/8ve transistor ladder VCF will give you goosebumps. Especially if you are going to go for them raw goa filter sweeps and leads.

Peace out.

are you planning to get the rack edition?

apart from the sound, does it have the amount of knobs and faders you were looking for?

i have never played this synth, but looks hard for me to tweak a lead live, where i want to access the most obvious parameters like cutoff, reso, env amount, att, dec at once..

the sound must be great though.

you can still record automation one by one, we have only 2 hands, i have been used to it with the prophecy and it was not a problem for me, i think it s just about selecting what you want to modulate with the knobs and save it with the patch but maybe it could bother some yes .

I may go down the rack road, I'm not sure yet - the keyboard version just looks so cool and I'm 1000% certain that the keyboard will be better than the one that I have..so that might influence me to actually stop fucking around and learn how to play

However, the rack version is extremely portable..and cheaper...            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Thinking I'll probably go with the rack version unless I can get a LP Stage II for around the same price used on ebay.

Then the Nord 2x rack most likely for extreme knobbage            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Oh i'm not going to be ordering anything for at least a month, as I'm ordering a new laptop this week or the next. Probably this week, even though I should probably wait for prices to drop a bit. Can't stand my huge noisy desktop anymore.

but yeah, whatever I get (really liking the phatty) will be true analogue - I need to experience it for myself!            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Like supergroover said, go have a listen to the ultranova, i had a go at it last week and it sounds great, i mean what else do you expect from novation!? and with the software implementation they made it very fun to tweak to your liking. the only con would be that its not multitimbral, but check the price on it, its realy cheap for what you get!! this is a huge bargain!
