My cubase doesn't detect any virtual midi keyboard, please help!

Ok so I have cubase sx3 and decided to give it a go with some music producing..

For that, I knew I had to have some kind of virtual midi device, so I instaled Midi YOKE drivers and midi-ox... gave the midi-ox an output and in cubase SX created a midi track, puted a VST and connected both, to no good...

I don't know whats happening...

I installed tobybears minihost and loaded my vsts in it... gave the input the same output channel that my midi-ox was using and voila! the vst plays in minihost

So basically minihost says the output channel I'm using with midi-ox is working, but cubase SX3 isn't detecting it...

Also, Im using ASIO4ALL drivers and don't have any specific soundcard, although I don't think that's a problem...

Does anyone have any idea whats going on?

Thanks in advance

i believe u are trying to use the features of the minihost. like the arpegiator, gate randomizer etc , as midi inputs for cubase vst instruments.. if so i have done this succesfully... its pretty cool by the way.

i think maple virtual cable are better than midi ox / yoke combo, easier to use... but u still have to have a midi input on the minihost. can be the keyboard.

Actually no...

I just want the cubase to read the midi information my virtual keyboard is sending

Don't want to use the arpegiator in the minihost, only on cubase...

Ok now I tried it with nuendo and it works perfectly

It just doesnt work with cubase!

I'm doing the same thing on both programs, and cubase simply doesn't recognize any midi input

What is going on?

Does the MIDI input indicator flash on the transport bar when you play the virtual keyboard? If not, SX isn't getting the MIDI in the first place, and the problem is elsewhere. If it's flashing (ie. if SX is receiving MIDI) then you need to make sure the MIDI track you have selected is in Record-Ready mode (press the large round red button on the track) and that you have the MIDI input and output on the track routed correctly. Finally, make sure the receiving VSTi is set to receive from any MIDI channel ('omni'), or that the channel set on the MIDI track matches the channel the VSTi is receiving on.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Yes the problem is elsewhere..

I make the same setup on both nuendo and sx3 and I only receive midi information on nuendo...

I have no ideia why cubase doesn't get the information

Anyway do you guys think nuendo is just as good as SX3 to produce? What is missing on it?

dude, check on ur transport bar(f2)
Next to ur main out volume is a midi velocity meter....
hit a key, if it comes up on here then cubase is getting signal just not sending it anywhere else....
It might help to explain which Midi Controller u have???

i think nuendo is the same (depends what version)
I have a friend who argues nuendo's engine is better than cubase, but i think there is no diference...           [[[G|L|I|T|C|H]]]

Trusted reports say that Nuendo can be more stable than SX. It also contains more facilities for working in various surround formats, and for working to picture. It's more customisable too.

The audio engines in SX and Nuendo are otherwise identical in quality.

Morphos - check in the VST Audiobay - is 'Release ASIO in background' checked? If so, uncheck it as this will cause the problem you see, since using your virtual keyboard (Glitch take note!) will then turn off the SX audio engine.

AHA i always wondered what that Check box option did!
Thanks man

hmmm, we're working on some surround stuff for college and i have found Surround panning rather tedious in sx as oppose to nuendo ;P           [[[G|L|I|T|C|H]]]

Already tried other virtual keyboards, and its the same thing
