Well, I've been trying to work with cubase and logic, but a celeron 533 just doesn't cut it. Could anyone give me a tip to work around the bad CPU problem in creating music (I prefer mine pretty multi-layered, which makes it pretty complex).
Thanks. |

its strange couse i had 533 and cubase worked just fine. try to close all the threads running on your system operation. (the little windows down & right - near the time). and keep it like that...
let your cpu manager the maximum power to operate cubas/logic.

Yeah, my motherboard is very, VERY old. This computer has been upgraded more or less to the limit.
And naturally, I close all TSRs (ctrl+alt+del them all, leaving only Explorer and Systray open), but it still sucks... I'm hoping it could be a software problem, but I'm not really counting on it. |

I have 448 MB RAM... that's probably not the problem.
Anyways, I'm dropping cubase and moving to Logic, since it's just better in every way. |

Crap...dude..........this is combination, combination!!!
You should have known this by now... It's all the shit in one:)
You need a strong CPU as P4 1500MHZ, You need a large memory as 512M RAM! Good sound card (full duplex) - luna :)
And the software :)
It's just a combination! |

Well, to everyone, I'm seriously considering buying a p4 2ghz (new motherboard, naturally), 1gb ram, and a nice sound card (the card will have a budget of around 2500nis)...
now since this WON'T happen anytime soon, could you not recommend me that? :) |

Project... People have made quality music with much, MUCH less.
It's just a SHITLOAD more work and time. A very, very painfull process of offline work. Not recommended AT ALL, to anyone. |

Asaf listen, if you allready figured out that ram isn't a problem, here's what you could do, Do your hard disks support DMA? If you don't know what DMA is, then, DMA makes your hard disk performance faster, which is very important for computer speed, it is possible to select/deselect this option in windows. Second of all, before investing massive amounts of shekels into a 2GH pentium four, let me tell you that, celeron is not developed for audio applications at all, meaning that your main problem may not be Speed (Mhz) of processor, but the qualities of the processor, meaning that if you buy a new motherboard(very important for speed), and a pentiumIII 500/600Mhz, you could have great performance without the expensiveness of a pentium4. And also you should Consider AMD processors, as they have Higher Cache memory and therefore are better for audio applications. But if i would have the cash, i'd go for pentium4.

I know about the CPUs (and BTW, the AMD are better because they have a much shorter pipeline than the p3-p4 processors, which means the AMD guesswork as to the next commands is much more accurate, and that's very important with heavier FX and sofsynths, and all of those are better than the celeron, because the celeron has shit support for media commands and it's FPU is deffinately worse than the others), and unfortunately, between parties, life, stuff like that, I just don't have the time/money to buy a new CPU at the moment.
Then again, the p4 is a good investment because it's motherboards are better and WAY more upgradeable than the AMD ones.
But, I guess I'll just have to work with loads of audio files and less synths at the moment. |
