If you aren't going for the 3/4 year degree (or equivalent qualification) then I would say that it isn't worth while doing the shorter courses.
You can learn everything they teach at the basic level qualification by reading the internet and a few well selected books.
Having done the SAE short course, I know.

i agree with c3po, i finished 2 years at yoav gera sound school, i and i tell you it a weist of money. u can learn all they teach alone and in less time. the only thing that was good is that u have access to equipment but still its not worth the money u pay.
also the teachers there are underpayed and not pro enought to teach u something usefull. |

c3po it's not true , ex. for teachers in bpm are X-noize , Sub6 , Astrix
i'm not sure if it's worth the money, but i prefer to buy something usefull like a nord lead or good monitors.you can always search the web for info about any subject you need. |

Yea. For the money you spend on studies you can actually go and buy some really decent geat.
I mean, x-noize, sub6 and astrix didn't study there before they became producers. You don't HAVE to do it. Learn alone, and if you can't do it - even a school won't help you.

ähm...
techno has no way better production... i dj´d techno for 8 years before is changed trains and endend up with psy...
i have friends who dj drum´n´bass and there is some very strong production as well! some dj techno, with partly strong produced stuff there. i myself dj psy and am very confident about the production level here.... i would say:
there is something like 10% top notch production in EACH genre. 80 average. 10% crappy.
however, psy most of the time sounds crystal clear wheras techno often has harsh sounds.. so i don´t really get it how someone would say techno has better production...
of course trancey minimal house or what ever u wanna call it is often very phat in production... but then, where is the line between trance/house/techno at that point?
as mentioned above a lot of psy acts have prog house sideacts or change after a while to minimal in order to get some cash ;-)
anyway, strong production does not rely to specific genre..
just my 0.02$

I know that even 1 course could lead into meatting new people from the industry and colaberation with other minds more expirienced then mine...! so what can be more helpful than that..?? am I wrong?
I must say that after reading the posts about buying equipment instead of paying 4 school, really made me think...

using cash for buying hardware and for learning directly from an experienced psyproducer if possible and then investing time for using the internet while constantly producing tracks i would consider the way to go as long as your budget is not over 5000 dollars or so.
but thats just my opinion. |

well, it totally depends on what you want to do...do you want to work in the business or do you just want to make better psy at home?
