------

5 PM, Tuesday, June 8, UN Plaza | Civic Center BART

A FREE renegade street party will UNwelcome the Biotech Conference to San Francisco (June 3-9), and toast the death of the G8 (meeting in GA, June 8-10). Meet at 5 PM, well get marching around 6 to the secret party location.

Why are we doing this? Because as the industrial powers of the world (G8) meet behind closed doors to jockey for control of the economic life of the world, and as corporations jockey for control of the very basic foundations of life on the planet, there is less and less room on this planet for the rest of us. When we use something everyday, when we need it to live our lives, it is not something we can afford to give away control of. These are our streets, our cities, our lives, our DNA, our bodies. And we'll take it all back, thank you very much, minus the G8 and minus the freakish mutant foods. And we'll have some fun in the process.

Mutant attire is STRONGLY encouraged. Its easy to be a mutant! Come a corncob crossed with a fish. Come as a human/beast hybrid. Or come as a superhero. If you are really at a loss for a costume, there may even be some avaiable.

Also: Bring your friends, family, joy, creativity, passion and food and drink to share. For more info. see www.rts-sf.org.

I didn't get down there 'till about seven pm. I walked down to where the helicopters were hovering, by powell street bart. I geuss 'cause I read street party I was thinking trance music?#$@? None to be heard today. Just a bunch of protesters with out answers. I agree that there are problems, I just don't see anyone actualy doing anything to change things. I hear alot of that's bad and this is bad , but no solutions are being presented. In your arguments against include solutionsto the problems. bio-tech overs solutions to the growing problems with agriculture. crops that are disease resistent . tomatoes that stay fresh forever. Foods that provide nutrients in larger amounts. Humans have made it to here and don't think anyone really wants to go backwards. Natural is good , but can't support the population of this planet. Or can it? Ethics is , I think , the primary issue here. Make foods better , yes. Show us test results that confirm their safety. I hear alot of down with bio-tech as a whole and I think that is just plain dumb. We need to be rational not fanatical. Fanatical will get us no where.
peace and love;

natural CAN support the planet. There is enough food being produced to each day to feed EVERY single human being on the planet. However, industrialized nations like the US destroy a fifth of the food they produce just to keep prices up. So why don't we try to reform the flawed system of distribution before we try to alter the balance that nature has created over millions of years?

The truth is the problem is terribly complicated. Most people do not know enough about this issue. However it is not difficult to see that Monsanto is not interested in trying to save our planet or feed the hungry.

I applaud those who went and showed their opposition to these bio-tech companies.

Anyway those renegade street parties are a part of my fondest memories in sf.I hope to create something like that here in Tokyo when the opportunity arises.
