@ sy000321
i already have build my complete studio. a HuGE working desk mounted on the wall, max load around 150-200kilo And 2 x 12unit racks + 2 x 14 units racks. But youre right about stands and acoustic treatment. i think ill make the basstraps myself. much cheaper and better.

well i bought my Virus C, 3.2Ghz PC, Midi Keyboard, UAD-1 card, Lynx Two soundcard, and Tannoy monitors with a credit card and it has been very difficult to repay!
and im still in dept from my sound engeneering school!
so my advice to you: keep it simple. It doesnt mean it wont be effective! I only scatched the surface of what is possible with my rig.

The SCOPE is in the same price range as the Radias...+ how can you say that a SCOPE system with some good Creamware soft synths, is expensive after comin up with that list?

I would never take a loan!
i got my computer on credits and it was the first and last time i did something like that...
i save money which i get from working fulltime...
and im choosing gear with lots of thought...
except for occiasional percussions i have a weak spot for those... hehe
i wouldnt advice to take loan..
If you know how to make good music, make some pop hits and you get some cash hehe easier said than done.. |

@ new era scientist
Im pretty drunk now, but ill try to answer anyhow!
As i wrote, its my only opportunity to get a nice studio, even though i have to loan the money. i have been producing 3-4 years on headphones, and im tired of it. pophits? well, its hard to make it sound good without monitors i allready owe the bank around 630.000dkr i dont know how its in euro but its around 100.000 eoru, and if i dont take this loan, i dont have a chance to follow my dream.....producing if i dont do it know when i have the chance (thx to my cool bankmanager) i will regret it the rest of my life......im not hoping to make big money by making great tracks, i just want to have great gear to produce tracks on that i can enjoy myself, thats whats important to me...i better stop now, i cant think clear, i just LOVE psytrance

Digital Psyence - i feel what you say
if thats the case then do it... but even so, choose your gear carefull....
too bad to hear about that big amount of loans, you must be a bad investor
if i was in your shoes i would probably do the same
but remember that they can take all your gear if you dont pay em back...
maybe you can take all your gear and move to india, and make a fake death! and get a your self a new identity |

Yep, thats what its all about, choosing my gear carefull call me a bad investor, but i dont want to live on the street, and i like my apartment, wich took me 18 years of waiting to get
And actually, they wouldnt be able to take the gear, because my apartment is more worth now than when i bought it. if the bank threw me out, i could have all my gear, and buy much more - but produce on the street though
lol, faking my death, and move under the hot sun......very tempting

@digital
a producer needs to know every button of his studio perfectly, as more maschines you buy as higher is the chance to get trapped in your own net and you possible will know every maschine but only to 20% until the end of your life.
its far better to build a studio step by step! this has two reasons:
A) the explained problem. you can learn better your setting and possibility if you dont overload your room and mind at the beginning. take care about getting deep knowlegde AND experience with every maschine. otherwise the money you spend on it is lost. it makes no sense to know 3 synthies just 30%. better one synthie 90%.
B) the market is overloaded. a lot of stuff there is not that what you realy need. you have a far better knowledge what you need next, if you have found the boundaries of your setting. you cant know what you realy need if you dont know your studio to 90% allready and have made experiences with it. work with your studio and improve the setting step by step. its like a pyramid-building. stone on stone. believe me: putting all stones together at beginning will end in chaos. only very advanced producers allready know exactly, what they need!
i post that here, because i have seen enough people getting real unsatisfied with their "killer"-setting, selling half of the maschines later. believe me, patience carefullness is the key to a perfect studio. |

@kitnam, i hear you. Very wise words, but off course i need to buy monitors, soundcard & stuff like that @ one time. Maybe i should just start with the Virus TI, and see if we'll become best friends
@Tribalizer, thx man, ill try to take it easy
here's a little appetizer of my future project Aural invasion, because im in a good mood today

A far as Virus TI: It seems that it has lots of problems with its OS and slow USB 1.1 interface to handle both audio and data. You might wanna wait for a firewire version, if it ever going to happen.
As far as Andromeda: It is a beast, but too many parameter to tweak. the sound is too moogy and slugish. You'll have a hard time going around to produce certain i.e jigsaw, or edgy FM sounds, and its busy LCD display is kinda .... too busy!
I am definitly moving away from hardware synths to softsynths. They are a lot easier to handle and they sound damn good. Virus TI was a very good idea, if Access didn't cheap out on its interface.
My shopping advice to Newbees:
2x decent reknown monitors
2x 17" LCD monitors
61 keys Midi Controller/Synth Combination
Decent PC or MAC with an extra/fast Audio hard drive
Cubase or Logic or DP or FL as host (comes with a softsampler)
Some kick ass Softsynths
8/8 audio interface with preamp 24bit firewire
An average mic
a good headphone
Acoustic treatment of room
HTH
cannabis --- out
