on reguard to the synths i mentionned, they are probably the best for making psytrance, very clean and crisp sounding, powerfull instruments (Virus and Nord Lead 2X). I would concentrate on learning them, and only them, for now. You will have MORE than enough for a while with these two pro machines. The Virus for the big bottom and amazing flexibility, the Nord for the <<out-of-an-LSD-trip-multiple-layered-leads>>.
VERY fat and scary.

The UAD-1 is praised the world over for bringing in studios digital recreations of the power and sound of the most incredeble analog compressors and FX in studio history. Plus some more extra goodies of their own creation...the algorythms made by top physicians who got them patent-pended.

beleive me my friend, with this, and a *shit load* of samples, you're off for good.

i think in this lays some of what the others tried to say...

and exuse my lusy english.

The Nord Modular G2x is also an awsome piece of machine, even tough it may not be so good for producing (because making cool and advanced patches takes quite alot of time), but its ofcourse more than possible :=)

I also love the Andromeda A6, loads of cool posibilities and really nice and warm sound.

I havent tried the new Virus TI, but it seems awsome too! :=)

I would also maybe consider buying some good tube preamps

Nord modular G2x Mmmm, but as u say, too time consuming. i have to check that andromeda out, it looks VERY advanced.

btw, just saw the price of RME Fireface 800, its gonna be too expensive......actually i have also been looking @ Tascam fw-1804, maybe it will be enough? Does anyone have experience with soundcard?

dude! Nord Modular, Andromeda.....
all very cool, but seriously, as far as Psytrance goes, consider them to be kind of overkill...

For deep modular synthesis experimentations, go Reaktor or Absynth, by Native Instruments.

WAY cheaper and extremely cool.

its only my humble opinion, but i belive in it!

Too much equipment, i would change it for a dgree in music (piano) another sound engineering dregree( i already have 1 but need more experience).

Hardware i`d only choose a pc, creamware scope and a midi controller like axiom 49, oh i forgot monitors. I think this is more than enough to make music.

very true! Especially with the new doublecore CPUs like AMD X2...loads of proccessing headroom

however i have *never* heard a softsynth sound even close to the twisted screams of my Virus! Its can be so...complex, deep, and very weird...

theres just something about dedicated hardware i guess...

one can never have too much equipment
if you compare the equipment i want to buy to big artists gear, its not very much. Many have 10-15 synths, lots of fx-processors, many different comps, mics & preamps. I need to have a few different synths, a real workhorse pc, good monitors, a good DAW Controller. With that stuff i have loads of possibilities, and a comfortable environment that i can work in. i won't settle for less than i think my productions is worth. i also take piano lessons, however i have it on standby for now, because i already have nice composing skills, and its VERY pricey for lessons.

Besides that, hardware just sounds better.

I had a "long" journey to try and find the right gear for my right skill , early on , I quit all jobs and other hobbies and produced around 10 hours daily , so from early on i Knew that this was something important for me .
Equipment is the devil , also in a good sense . But i can tell you from a little experience , I was hunting for specific things all the time that could improve my production , this sound or this synth , or this speaker or whatever i saw when i got the last thing id like .
its a neverending process , bought alot of gear that i sold after weeks , some times 4-5 pieces of equipment at the same time . Alot of gear is always welcome , the time to learn it , and the need is also very important . I can tell u , spent half of ur budget on just almost the computer and monitors ( and a Nl 2x ) today id like a macintosh, and im sick and tired of the old "one " ..
we are technology junkies , seraching for new toys all the time , many of them we can use , many of them we will sell and buy other things for , but the search will never stop .
Well we dont need 10-15 synths unless we have 10 sets of hands , today my nl2x and Virus b gather a whole lot of dust comparing to my vsti's. Explore them all you can , and get the standard machines to start with , Virus , Nl .
For the Gyraf Compr or ssl clone , im interested in hearing more about this .i tried to get in contact with some clone builders , but hard to get some work done , Now im waiting for the waves emulation of the ssl .            3ó BooOoM ShanKaRA 3ó

yeap, but times are different, VSTi is big now and think that most of these artists started buying and experimenting stuff and slowly building their setup...

my hardware synths are now mostly gathering dust, they were an important part of my learning process, but at the time VSTi sucked and now VSTi is the way to go.

Hardware still rules as controllers and for some sounds that are particular to some machines.

btw, i see you're already planning on buying some cool monitors, maybe you should also plan to buy monitor stands, a nice studio desk, acoustic treatment, etc, that stuff is priceless

yeap, that sure is too be cool. The sound of most 90's albuns rely a lot in the use of the SSL bus compressor, but i don't know if it will do anything for me.

@ Rishi

i know what u mean, and i understand that there will always be new products that we want, & will sell our old to get, but even though im young, im still oldschool. I like hardware synths, and i use my hardware almost every day. im also planning making a good pc, dual amd or dual xeon. Mac will kill my budget - and im on cubase.

those DIY comps im going to buils soon: @ this site u can buy the PCB's.

http://www.prodigy-pro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10776 u just use paypal. Very easy and very cheap. here u find the instructions and list of every part u need to buy. http://www.gyraf.dk/gy_pd/ssl/ssl.htm
@ this page u find some proffessors in case u need help http://tunetown.dk/forum/

i think the SLL comp will cost around 1800-2000DKR / 270 Euro to build.
