TRANCEVISUALS
I have my first psytrance DVD coming out in about
two weeks, with tracks from OOOD, Rastaliens,
VOC vs Organic Recs etcs. And graphics by little old
me. - DAS PRODUKT (name of the DVD)
Then sometime later the chill-out DVD, with
Organic Recs, Interchill (Eat Static, Gaudi, Tripswitch)
etc. - HALLUCINATORY LANDSCAPES

Yes, there are certainly already DVDs with visuals to accompany tracks (loads on Psyshop etc), but I think perhaps what he means is music videos in the more conventional, MTV sense. This might work if the video footage was abstract and comlemented the music, rather than featuring the artisits themselves, as thankfully our scene is about mnusic not personalites and their egos.

However, I can easily imagine an IM video with the two of them cruisin in a drop-top limo, sippin champagne and surrounded by 'bitches'

Loads of close up footage of Duvdev's face and eyes..

Music videos are for MTV. Psytrance isn't for MTV.           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

That could be debated. I have a entire different view on that subject comparing todays scene with just 6-7 years ago.

As for videos. Please stay away.

yes, of course- since I started going to parties in the early days of the UK scene, the whole thing has changed beyond recognition.

However, this scene is still far more about music - and far less about personalities - than pretty much every other genre of dance music out there.

If videos are such a bad idea then why does every party these days seem to have a VJ? Sure, personality-based visuals are not (IMO) particularly suited to trance - but done well, there is as much scope for hallucinogenic visual input as there is for audio. Personally I'm very excited about the prospect of having synchronised visuals designed specifically for my music; adding more senses to the trance formation can only be a good thing, I think. Hey Mr OOOD

If you want smell-o-vision, we can do that for you.
The only problem is that we need a friendly venue,
and promoters, who can provide a very secure
area for health and safety reasons, as it involves
liquid carbon dioxide/nitrogen.
Imagine the whiff of fresh roses, or mint floating
over the crowd with the breaks and buildups.
And a great way to chase away that sweaty nicotine
fog.

absolutely. Although some parties seem to have video screens just for the sake of it, it can certainly add a great deal to the whole experience when done in the right way.

However, I think the guy who started the topic was talking about videos as promotional tools for artists, and I can't envisage a time when this will be Embraced by the majority of our community. However, again if it's done in a tasteful way, then I guess artists have the right to promote themselves in any way they can, especially considering the fact that most (and I say MOST) psytrance producers make bugger all money from their work compared to those in other genres.

I think its a great idea. i must admit though i could see why people like vjs at parties doing visuals, but i must say last summer i saw the flaming lips at a festival, they strange clips from old videos and movies, of bugs walink around. closeups of nature. i think seeing this is very intresting. im kinda tired of seeing those win amp type visuals at parties, you know. someone should make some psy moveis, with real life clips sorta like LIquid Crystal vision DVD,(exclude the interviews) http://www.liquidcrystalvision.com/that would be great . cause i dunno if its me but regular spinning visuals to me just seem so synthetic, even when im tripping it just doesnt do anything to me

IMO, music videos would be awesome as long as they dont all do the same "DJ playing in club with everyone going crazy and closeups of hot raver girls" type video. But then again, I dont think very many producers would shoot for the same type of video everyone else has, they would probobly wanna make it as psychedelic and unique as possible, so yeah, videos would be really cool.

Well for starters i wasnt at all directly referring to it as a money making prospect /promotional tool for artists but what the hell if it does happen as a trickle down effect as a result of their hard work .. why not? also it gives money making opportunity to graphic designers.

yes trippy synchonised visuals or random abstract footage which wil enhance the experience. not for mtv but for an intended audience read dvd's .

who kows just might help increase sales of psy cd / dvds .
