FAF is not really a chord, more like an interval. a major third. you can add a C and make it an F chord or you can add a D and make it a Dm or you can check out what other major or minor thirds to lop on. Any will work. Just dont do minor or major 2nd intervals and itl sound consonant.
You dont have to fill in the other note either. You can keep the mystery too.
Is that your doggie?

I forgot to mention. The upper F is basically a harmonic of the lower F. Which means its already there in the lower F, at twice the frequency. All you are doing by playing the upper F is boosting the +1 and above harmonics of the first F. You could do the same thing by cutting the root harmonic of your note and just playing it louder overall.
But Does it sound good? Well you be the judge.

My key is Am so I thought i can only use minor related stuff (+3/+7/+10 etc.)
So if I get that right I can also use the major chords to fit or better to say get harmony?
heck out what other major or minor thirds to lop on

a major third is 4 semitones. a minor third is 3 semitones.
so
in the case of the Dm chord you were playing, its made up of a minor and major third. As from the D to the F is 3 semitones and from the F to the A is 4 semitones.
The only difference between a major and minor chord is the order of the minor and major thirds, as all chords are constructed of major and minor thirds.
I recommend you buy a book fakso. It will explain "everything"

I will, instead of progressive I will focus on techno and its derivates and garage and I managed to make beats and grooves for all of these quiet well, only that damn music theory gets in my way when producing it's the last thing I really need to learn, everything else is more about experince + learning incidentally ofc
So when I have minor chords I can look for a major chord with a semitone away?

Fakso - The circle of fifths is a cool concept to know. but you will end up sounding like every single madonna song harmony. You should know it of course, because it explains a very important concept of resolution. However, there are many different kinds of resolution which give different results, and can be used strategically for the effect you intend. So learn this stuff and move on as quickly as you can.
The section in the book on instability is a far more general explanation of resolution. Together with counterpoint you can steer your melody and harmony in weird and surprising directions that both sound great, novel and inspired. Think setting up the listener with frustration and the final giving them a taste, then frustrating again etc. then ramping it up when they cant take anymore then finally dumping them on a desolate plane to recuperate etc.
Once you understand stability, consonance, prosody and counterpoint, then you will be able to begin understanding composition, contrast, groove, .... pretty soon weave music together with real artists. Then you will have to differentiate yourself...
but SPOILER ALERT !!! most of amateur music will sound really really badly made. Most commercial music will become intolerably 85-115 IQ everyday joe shmoe vocoder cheesy twinkle twinkle little star crap, There's kinda no way of going back. Consider yourself warned.
The other thing to know though is that it takes a lot of time and effort to master this. If this is a hobby for you then you have to ask whether you are willing to spend all your time finding out whats new, how to do it, how to better it. Its a full time job. Do you want music as a full time job? Do you have anything you can depend on while you are getting good enough to be paid for it?

Interesting, I really would like to learn how harmony works and how to apply all those things to work out melodies and chord progressions
For the last, well ofc I would like to make music as a fulltime job and I nearly spend all my time with making music, but as you say I have nothing to depend on while becoming better and fullfill this, I need to work...
There is nothing to do then to find a balance of really learning this and everyday life, it's ok when this means it's a bit slower, I'm relatively young, when I see that lots of people are in their late tweenties and thirties when their music really becomes good

Music theory is supposed to be learned and understood, and once you master and understand it fully, forget about it. You won't need the theoretical knowledge, because it is coherent and always there when you write music, much like learning about how to ride a push bike and then just doing it, without remembering how...
