as a basic rule in electronic music, you will probably use any A# scale/mode.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

I aways used my ears... but in my last music I did a Bassline Midi like: A#A#A# / A#A#E / A#A#C# / A#A#A# /
And I was having some trouble to compose the melody of the rest of the music, so I decided to look wich scale uses A#, C# and E, and I realyzed that the only one wich match with it was the A# Blues Scale (a relay weird scale XD). But that midi gives a realy evil sensation, I loved it to use on full on night musics.           www.myspace.com/kromaticmusic

U can use any notes that do not clash with it (at the time or while its playing). i.e. dont have an interval of major or minor 2 or tritone. Then it will all be fine. (counterpoint)

That holds for any scale or modulation.

bukboy... having the intervals of 5ths and minor 3rds will be ok here even for this one I suppose - but this is all a question of what one wants to hear.

You can create some nice motifs with non harmonic melodies .

However, I'd just stick to A# minor scale to start. Most dance music is written in minor scales, but it's up to you.          http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

I heard that in the mastering process, many people remove the frequencies(tones) wich are out of the scale of the music, that makes me think that I supost to make the whole music on the same scale. XD

Do you mean to avoid minor / major second? or what?

if you are after consonance, then yes. it all depends on context and what you are trying to achieve. there's really no right or wrong here.

dissonance in metal is a beautiful thing (to my ears).           https://soundcloud.com/dead-end-dance

Aciduss - I mean if you want a consonant/coherent feel to your music dont play notes which are 1 or 2 semitones apart, coz they grate on each other.

But if you want a grating/dissonant insane sound then you would achieve it precisely by using more of those.

Regarding the tritone - I actually enjoy putting a chord change that moves up/down a tritone. Because it sounds like a very warlike/aggressive contrast. It sounds great if you want to make your piece develop a darker more energetic character.

What's it called when you avoid the 3rd, 6th and 7th so that you could be either minor or major? (since the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th are the same in both)

Thats called power chords isnt it?

What you're talking about generally though is called modulating between relative minor and major.
To do that, you would only use those notes to give an ambiguity while preparing to switch between one and the other. Once you had switched you would only use the minor or major, until u decided to modulate again, then you would prepare for the switch by only using notes common to both.

Thank for your comments dude, would you elaborate on that? I've little experience using chords, just know about common chord progressions but like to understand about this 'special moves'.

thx again
