Get ahold of the other artists from the cd and see if they are willing to upload their tracks for free to a myspace site. Tell this story and spam the link in any psyforum available. Be sure to mention the label and cd name...

You wont be getting a dime for the tracks, but hey: so wont the moron who stole your tracks.           *In AjmaGard We Trust*

there are many sites

selling maximum of the va/albums as solo tracks

even our free promo we released is bieng sold there

they also mention on thier site that they pay artist and label respectively for every sale they do ... which is bullshit

il post the links when i get to my home pc

i found my music on these sites too... they sell the "scene" mp3 rips for money.

i think for my next release i will post a list of the legal places to get it, without mentioning the ilegal links themselvs. i think this is one of the only ways to fight this, short of legal action, that i myself have no desire to go through.

Maybe this is completely offtopic, but I feel like putting in a comment.

Seriously, I wanna know who this 'Mycel' and other charaters are and if they know what they are doing to this scene. Nobody buys minority music anymore and still artists make it because they love it, there is seemingly no reward anymore for making cutting edge dance music.
It's so disheartening and although money is not the sole objective of any muscian, it would be nice to be recognised for your talents.

Personally, I lay most of the blame at the feet of the record industry - my parents got me into all kinds of music from a very young age and looking at all their old vinyl singles from the late 80's to early 90's prices were around £1 for a single. Not much - but everybody bought them for the whole feeling of collection and ownership. I feel prices have gone crazy and really pushed people away from purchasing.

Whatever the reason, the whole idea of music from the general public point of view has changed for the worse and I really hope it will bounce back. Everyone sees music as a disposable pleasure, and not as an artform. Maybe this is because of the amount of releases, perhaps it seems easier to make music now.. despite the years of practice any effort put into getting one complete track.

We all would like to know who that guy was. As far as blaming the record labels for the poor payment to artists, I think who is really to blame are companies like Apple who came out with I pod and other mp3 player manufacturers. Sure, this guy went way over the top, however, there seem to be a lot of psy labels out there trying to make ends meet.
It is sad that artists who really try hard to produce cutting edge sound and spend a lot of time doing it don't get the few bucks for all the work they put into a track.
I would like to see a blacklist for labels who "misbehave" and a whitelist for labels who do good business with their artists.

That's the worst thing I've ever heard. Would you mind elaborating on that. Maybe warn others of the pitfalls.

i don't want to go into specifics too much because things are still being resolved. but if i could offer one piece of advice it would be this:

don't be in too much of a hurry to get signed.

it's not the be-all and end-all. bide your time, and just focus on making your music better and more 'you'. eventually it will come, but don't put yourself under pressure to release as soon as possible.

read all contracts carefully and if possible have someone with legal experience look over them for you. research labels carefully, and if you're thinking about signing with them, talk to other artists who are already on the roster.

I think everybody is to blame: if the mp3's weren't downloaded to replace cd's there would be no problem. I try to download every psy cd that is released and then listen for cd's i like to buy. And i spend way too much money on psy-cd's every year And considerably more than before the advent of mp3's and fast p2p networks because i know what i'm buying. If i'm not able to find the mp3 of the cd i'm not going to buy it (I take care not to have a too large share-ratio, so i don't spread the mp3's too much). For me it's a convenient way to find the artists i like to support and you have to because so much crap is being produced. So the good artists are happy (if they're not being fucked by their record label) and i am happy, only the crappy artists are not happy because i'm not accidentally buying their cd after listening to a random snippet of their track on an on-line recordstore's site.

Imho the biggest problem is the amount of music and the number of labels willing to release it. The scene is just too small to support all these people: all the hippies just can't afford to buy all these cd's. If all the artists want to make a living out of it, the poor hippies would have to buy so many cd's that they couldn't buy hashish anymore. For example, if you want to make 2000 $ every month by releasing one cd a year (which you need if you have to buy gear and pay taxes), you would have to sell 12000 cd's (assuming you earn 2 $ per cd). Given that there are about 25 psytrance cd's released every month this would mean that the crowd as a whole would have to buy 300.000 cd's every month (it's a bullshit calculation, but it's intended just to give an idea). And that's just not going to happen. I'm afraid you just can't expect to produce underground cyber-folk and get paid for it.
