Hi all,

since I started producing my music listening pleasure has seriously deteriorated, its kinda alarming actually. I analyze everything I hear, and the more I know about music production or the better i get at it the more I analyze. At first I just analyzed what track is doing what , now i listen to compression, EQ or whatever, or picking out chord progressions...anyways, its very hard to just enjoy music anymore. And my music taste has changed because of this as well, i actually enjoy boring but well-produced music because i want to hear how they get to that polished sound, and dislike inspired but less well-produced music...

I am interested what some of you really experienced producers have to say about this, like EP (Kris) for example. Does this ever go away, or does it get even worse? Can you still just sit down and enjoy music, can you switch the analyzer in your head off?

I hope this is just a phase every n00b goes through and then eventually i can go back to listening like i used to...

really .i like musical sound in different ways..

and this is the medicine for thoose who only listen to boring music because it's well produced:

Yup change ur listening styles and tbh it happens to everyone, just try to ignore it, remind yorslef your listening for pleasure and turn your "engineer" head off, not easy but thats what u must do.

I havent listened to a complete album by just lieing down on the sofa and enjoying it for years, i just cant make it through, so i have developed a way of listening in small bites, this helps.

I must say , however, meditation has helped me recently and i am feeling more capable of turning my engineer head off completely, which is good.

Good luck man, but dont fret, it happens to us all

I find it helpful to think of myself as 2 different ppl, one a musician, the other a music listener, and try to keep them separate, when listening, ignroe the musician, when making music, ignore the listener (thats how come Ive gotten overexcited about new works and rushed to share them before they were worth sharing)           .

I found my pleasure now comes from as far away from the music I make as possible.

For example, two tracks I'm loving this month -

Radical face - welcome home
My Morning Jacket - Victory Dance

Not trance, not dance, not electronic.. just pure music.

They don't influence me, I don't know how they're made, I just enjoy them!

Thinking a bit more on teh subject, I think Ive sorta gone beyond overcriticism of others' works, or performances.... Idk, its like, now I dont really mind the things i used to sneer about cuz im just enjoying myself being alive.

You may find also that the more you learn, the more you hear others' neat tricks, that you can take what you like best from and integrate into your own stuff.

I dont knwo what happened but somewhere along the line, i went from jaded dj jerk always finding things wrong to just... Sliding Id guess that I just got tired of making the effort to dislike stuff.           .

"Music sounds different now..."
The first thing that came to my mind is MDMA.
But seriously, when you go deep into something you start to care about little details and see what you work on from a different perspective. For example if you started working on fashion design you would say "clothes look different now".
I think that i can 100% enjoy music only when i'm high.           https://soundcloud.com/poisonritual

I dont think thats a noob thing... its the way to getting professional. You will make you music sound good and try to find out what others do to get the sound like it is.

when i producing new tracks its not possible for me to hear other music without anylizing but when the process is over and i have some distance to producing i also can just enjoy new music.
