i havnt seen this subject come up at all so i decided to search, but i couldnt find anything. what is the general feeling about creating music on other operating systems such as Linux? I know that Linux runs a much better server than windows or mac (at least thats what the design community says) but i didnt know if alternative OS would run better under a music studio type setting. Also, it seems that very few music programs can run under Linux, is there a reason?
I would just like to know because I heard that linux can run for months without a restart. does that amount of stability show up in studio use? |

Are you planning to work for months without a single break? I guess not. So restarting the system every once and a while isn't that bad.
I'm sticking to XP.

There isn't almost none commercial audio applications running on linux. This means that all the big companies are out of the game, which leaves only universities and private people to develop. If you really like to experiment you could create music on a linux system. You will also enjoy from the fact that almost everything is free.

WinXP, MacOS and Amiga for the aged MIDI enthusiasts.
I heard also that there's a music production program for Playstation 2. For the Playas

mmm I guess linux will be good for music production someyears ahead, today I stick to Cubase SX3. Rosamunde seems like a very old Cubase... For trance issues, will not work alone. You have to use several devices connected through "Jack", then you can begin to play!

having linux in the machine is not a simple a<mbient X running , almost all the things u need for ex install zip or extract install progs , its evberything made on the root sheel , so u will need to read lots of MAN (manuals) to know how to make all the things u wanna do , so for does who want start thinking on linux for music making , first before thinknig on that , try learning first linux , then think on music production under linux ..
i dont know how so many ppl have problem in they'r computer , constant crashes etc , it must be only bad luck , when i was pc user i never had any kind of problems , very rarely a crash but only in logic ..
about the rest supaa stable ,,

since i started this thread back in Oct 11, 2004, i have found very little useful info. to be honest, i really dont think its worth the trouble. i thought it would be a good idea to have a more stable platform so there would be less crashes and lost/currupt data, but there is very little support for linux (and other third-party OS's) when it comes to music production.
stuck with glitchy windows for now.
